The invention provides a grease composition comprising: 1. A grease composition comprising:(a) a lubricating base oil;(b) a polymeric thickener comprising a mixture of (1) a (co- or homo)polymer of propylene with a weight average molecular weight of more than 200.000 and (2) a (co- or homo)polymer of propylene with a weight average molecular weight of less than 200.000; and(c) a polar wax.2. The grease composition according to claim 1 , wherein the weight ratio between the high molecular weight component and the low molecular weight component is 1:40-1:5.3. The grease composition according to claim 2 , wherein the low molecular weight component is a polypropylene homopolymer.4. The grease composition according to claim 3 , wherein the low molecular weight component has an average molecular weight between 20.000 and 200.000 and a melt flow rate of 500-1500.5. The grease composition according to claim 4 , wherein the high molecular weight component is a polypropylene homopolymer or a propylene/ethylene-copolymer.6. The grease composition according to claim 5 , wherein the high molecular weight component has an average molecular weight of 200.000-350.000 and a melt flow rate of 1.5-15.7. The grease composition according to comprising:(a) 60-95 wt % of the lubricating base oil;(b) 1-20 wt % of the polymeric thickener; and(c) 1-20 wt % of the polar wax, all weight percentages based on the total weight of the grease composition.8. The grease composition according to claim 7 , wherein the polar wax is a montanic acid wax or a wax of a montanic acid derivative.9. The grease composition according to claim 8 , wherein the polar wax is a polar wax of a montanic acid derivative or a polar polyethylene wax.10. A polymer thickened lubricating grease composition with improved resistance to high operating temperatures (constant and/or peak), containing 1) a lubricating base oil, 2) a polymeric thickener, containing a) a high melting point component comprising at least one polymer with a melting point (ASTM D-2117) of more than 200° C., especially more than 225° C., and b) a low molecular weight component comprising a (co- or homo-) polymer of propylene with a weight average molecular weight <100,000, and 3) optional further lubricating grease additives. The polymer thickener of the grease preferably further contains c) a high molecular weight component comprising a (co- or homo-) polymer of propylene with a weight average molecular weight >200,000. The grease preferably has a dropping point of >150° C., more preferably 180°-220° C., and is suitable for use in high operating temperature applications.

Process for the preparation of polyurea greases A b s t r a c t The invention relates to a new three-part process, which can also be employed on a large industrial scale, for the preparation of polyurea lubricating greases, which is characterised (a) in that polyureas which carry oleophilic groups are prepared by reaction of diisocyanates with amines either in the absence of a solvent on a reaction screw at 80-120°C, preferably at 85-95°C, (variant A) or in a toluene medium at 20-80°C, preferably at 30-60°C, (variant B), (b) in that, after complete reaction, the polyureas prepared according to (a) are ground in the solid, dry state to give powders (at least 70% by weight of the powder having particle sizes of about 100 -400 µ) and (c) in that the ground crude product, after being made into a "paste" (wetted) at elevated temperature in the base oil employed (10 - 30 minutes at 140 -180°C) and cooled again to room temperature, is processed to a grease by complete homogenisation -if appropriate in several passes - in a high-pres-sure homogeniser under a pressure of 400 - 1,500 bar (spontaneous heating occurring up to about 100°C), greases having readily reproducible and essentially the same properties as in the case of the previously custom-ary in situ manufacture being produced. Bottlebrush poly(alpha olefin)s of high carbon number, greater than 12 such as poly(octadecene), are used as a thickener for a synthetic base oil grease lubricant that is based on oligomerized alpha olefin with carbon number from 7 to 12, such as oligo(decene). Dispersion aids are not required in the present lubricants because poly(octadecene) can be dissolved in oligo(decene). The lubricant is a solid grease formed by percolation/network of the poly(octadecene) crystals, at a sufficient concentration, after the crystallization of poly(octadecene), and water resistant having oxidation/high temperature stability.
