A tensioning device for yarn being wound into a package comprises a pair of plates between which the yarn passes and which are held by a screw cap on a boss which is rotatable on a stub shaft secured to an auxiliary support frame. The boss has a skirt which contacts the periphery of a drive wheel mounted on a drive shaft which is common to several winding posns. whereby the boss and plates are rotated. The auxiliary frame is spring biassed so that the skirt is held in contact with the drive wheel, and a manual lever operates a cam to move the auxiliary support frame against the action of the spring so that the skirt is moved out of contact with the drive wheel. When yarn breakage occurs the discs can be stopped from rotating by movement of the auxiliary support frame so that piecing up can be effected without affecting the other winding posns.

The spindle part (4) is supported by the support shaft (6) while being restricted from moving toward the hysteresis brake (34) by a sleeve (15). The spindle part (4) and the hub (37) are coupled with each other so as to integrally rotate via a pin (21). According to the present invention, it is possible to simplify a structure while preventing the hysteresis brake from being broken, and to reduce the manufacturing cost of a thread-supplying spindle unit.

Sections of the lead-in guides, on which the first pack-holders are located, are separated from the lead-in guides and are provided on both sides with limiters for the movement of the package holders, and the length of the sections is equal to the step between the packers. Front ends of all the guides are located in the same vertical plane, and each section of the lead-in guide, on which the first package holder is located, is fixed to the platform. Each platform is equipped with a stepper with a gear wheel, interacting with the rack with the rails, with which the rollers attached to the platform interact. A yarn storage apparatus 10 comprises a plurality of yarn storage tubes 12 arranged in an inclined position so that a first end 14 of each yarn storage tube is higher than the second end 16. Each yarn storage tube 12 includes a yarn outlet 20 at or towards the first end 14 to dispense yarn 18 and a load plate 22 slidable along the hollow interior of the yarn storage tube 12. The load plate 22 includes a plate element 24 having a first face 26 to rest against windings of yarn 18, an opening 28 to allow yarn to pass through the plate element 24 towards the yarn outlet 20 and a fence element 30 extending from a second opposing face 32 of the plate element 24 towards the yarn outlet. The fence element 30 divides the hollow interior of the yarn storage tube 12 so as to form a passage on one side thereof for yarn passing from the opening 28 in the plate element 24 towards the yarn outlet 20 and to form a cage on the other side thereof to receive at least one load element 40. The load element 40 is received in the cage so as to apply a load to the second face 32 of the plate element 24 and to urge the first face 26 of the plate element 24 against windings of yarn 18 stored in the yarn storage tube 12. The load element 40 may be spherical such as a glass marble or steel ball or it may be elongate with wheels (54, 56 fig. 6). Also disclosed is an insertion tool 44 to connect ends of yarn 18 stored in the yarn storage tubes 12 into yarn consuming apparatus. The insertion tool 44 comprises an elongate insertion element 46 having a handle at one end and a gripper for yarn (47 fig. 3) at the other end. The gripper (47 fig. 3) may comprise jaws or a piece of fabric with burrs or hooks. A guide 48 may be rotatably mounted on the elongate element 46.

Yarns, warping and beaming.-In a machine for warping and beaming yarns, the yarns pass vertically from cops on pegs 3 arranged in rows to eyelets 4 at the top of the creel, and thence horizontally through perforated flanges, eyelets, or staples 6 mounted outside, inside, or both outside and inside a box-like sley 5 extending the full width of the machine. The width of the warp is then contracted by a raddle 21, and the yarns pass over rollers 7, 8, 9 and tension rollers 10, 11 to the frictionally-driven beam 15. The rollers 10, 11 are mounted on an adjustable frame 12 having a rack which can be moved by a hand-actuated pinion 13.

In the two-for-one twister, two overfeed rollers (4,5) with a gap between them are located between the twisting spindle (1) and the winder (6,7). Both overfeed rollers (4,5) are powered separately through their drive shafts (13,14). Relative speeds between the feed surfaces of the overfeed rollers (4,5) and the yarn (2) are separately adjusted at each overfeed roller (4,5). At the leading overfeed roller (5), in the direction of yarn (2) travel, the angle (11) round the roller (5) in the yarn (2) path is greater than the angle (10) round the trailing roller (4) in the yarn (2) path. ADVANTAGE - Mechanism reduces the tension on the wound yarn below 2 cN and possibly below 1 cN, to give wound bobbins suitable for yarn dyeing processes.

The yarn is wrapped around and between a driven tensioning pulley and a small freely rotatable separator pulley, and a radial arm is pivotal about the tensioning pulley axis at one end and carries a guide roller at the other end. As the arm is rotated the guide roller contacts the yarn wrap and progressively lifts it clear of the tensioning pulley surface, thereby progressively decreasing the arc of contact between the tensioning pulley and the yarn, and decreasing the yarn tension. Rotating the arm in the opposite direction increases the yarn tension.
