In a sewing machine adapted to produce loose stitches a bar 6, slidably disposed in a groove 10 which is formed in the work-supporting plate 9 and is closed by a cover plate 11, carries a pin 28 which extends through a groove 29 formed in the throat plate 28. A pin 15, extending downwardly from bar 9 through an opening 34 in plate 9, is biased by a spring 33 to engage a roller 13, carried by a pin 14 also extending downwards from bar 9 through opening 34, with a cam 23 secured to the looptaker-driving shaft 25. Rotation of the latter thereby serves to reciprocate pin 28 into the successive bobbin thread loops to produce slackness therein.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TESTING SEWING THREAD Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention permits the testing of the sewing characteristics of various types of sewing threads under conditions which simulate the normal conditions encountered when performing various fabric seaming operations in the conventional manner. The testing of the sewing characteristics of the sewing threads is carried out in an economical manner by using narrow test strip fabric so that the test results can be ascertained in a short period of time. The method and apparatus of the present invention permits various types of sewing threads to be subjected to the identical and repeatable conditions so that an accurate comparison of the sewing characteristics can be made. The sewing thread test can be carried out on relatively inexpensive narrow test fabric strips which are fed to and past the stitching needle of the sewing machine in various angular paths of travel relative to the needle and at preselected variable speed rates.

A decorative textile having loose thread ends wherein the sewing holding the thread sections together or hold the thread sections to a flat base textile is covered by the loose thread ends. The decorative textile is produced by winding a flat coil form having an open slot with thread such that the open slot is at least partially covered with the thread windings, stitching the thread winding on a sewing machine through the slot, cutting the thread windings on both sides of the coil form thereby exposing the loose thread ends, and removing the decorative textile from the coil form. The decorative textile may be produced with or without the fabric base support. Various designs, defined by the open slots, may be applied to a fabric base. A sewing machine accessory to produce the decorative textiles is disclosed.
