A control system for a textile dying apparatus processes and distributes digitally encoded pattern information. A substrate is moved on a path along which the surface of the substrate comes into operative range of a plurality of arrays arranged along the path of the substrate. Each of the arrays has a plurality of individual dye applicators capable of selectively projecting a stream of dye onto a predetermined portion of the substrate corresponding to a pattern element in a pattern composed of a pattern element matrix with a plurality of pattern elements in each of a plurality of pattern rows. Each pattern element is associated with a visually distinct pattern area. The dye applicators project dye for a time period determined by the pattern information. The method first determines a set of initial values. From the initial values it generates a firing command matrix having, for each dye applicator in each array, a firing command sequence corresponding to the pattern element to which that dye applicator may apply dye in each pattern row. Finally, the method allocates, for simultaneous transmission to each dye applicator in each array, the firing command sequence in the firing command matrix corresponding to the pattern element in the pattern row to be applied to the predetermined portion of the substrate that is passing within operative range of the dye applicator at the time of transmission. <IMAGE>

The transfer printing process for textile fabrics, such as carpetings or wall coverings, uses a continuous fabric and a continuous inert carrier for the dyestuff to be transferred by heat and pressure to one side of the textile. The carrier is composed of long patterned strips which run across the carrier and are joined together, and before the carrier is brought to the fabric the sides are joined to two adjacent carriers. The patterning on the side carriers is displaced from the central carrier by a value which is at least the sum of the anticipated shrinkage between one carrier and another in a lateral direction under process temp. When heat and pressure are applied to transfer the dye pattern, the patterns in the carriers join exactly. The process allows broad carpetings and other materials, of 4-5 m width, to be patterned by a transfer dye technique.

Warp printed fabrics are produced in four stages:- the web of threads is prepared by section warping; the web is transfer printed whilst heated and pressed by an endless blanket, against a continuously running transfer carrier; the printed web is wound on to a beam; and the fabric is woven or warp-knitted. Before being introduced into the printing machine, the free ends of the warp thread web are glued side by side and parallel to a thin temporary support such as a sheet of paper, and to prevent soiling of the blanket, a continuous sheet of kraft paper is fed in between it and the web. It is no longer necessary to weave the warp loosely before printing and then remove the temporary weft before the beam is finally woven, thus saving up to 70% of the weaving costs.

Method and apparatus for automatically loading at least one look-up table in a textile dyeing system with firing time data. The machine operator enters a list of entries including a base entry, machine color loading entries and a stock entry into the system. A firing time table of firing times is generated for each of a plurality of color bars with respect to a given base, from the base entry. A machine color table of color data is generated for each of the plurality of color bars from the machine color loading entries and a pattern color table of pixel codes and their associated colors with respect to a given pattern is generated from the stock entry. The system correlates the firing times, color data and pixel codes to obtain a modified firing time for each pixel code for each color bar and loads the look-up table with the modified firing time data.

Method and device for printing on air-permeable fabrics by means of liquid colorants broken down into molecules. It consists in flattening out the article 13 to be printed, in spraying a cloud of colorant, in making it penetrate into the fabric through the stencil by means of suction 30, the mechanism and operation of which are subject to the system 31 for dispensing colorant. All the chemistry necessary for the good yield of the colorants will be incorporated beforehand into the fabric before printing. The screens of the stencils necessary for this technique may be different to the ones used to date, owing to the removal of any mechanical action on the stencils. The dispersion of the colorants can, in the case of the device claimed, be changed instantly. The manufacture of shades of these colorants can take place in real time and automatically during printing for the requirements of the latter.
