A system and method for monitoring the levels of product in a chemical dispensing system. A probe assembly is operatively disposed in a container holding product to be dispensed. A detection circuit including an oscillator sensitive to the impendence coupled to the detector is selectively coupled to the probe assembly and produces a signal in response to the impedance of the probe assembly indicating if the level of product in the container has dropped below the probe assembly. Water may be supplied to the single use dispenser through a first water flow path, which directs a dose of treating chemistry dispensed from the single use dispenser into the treating chamber. Water may be supplied to the bulk dispenser through a second water flow path, which is configured to spray a dose of treating chemistry dispensed from the bulk dispenser into the treating chamber. The additive injection apparatus includes a main body, and additive container, a nozzle, and a floater. The main body is disposed on a path along which a solvent flows and includes an inlet and an outlet for receiving and discharging the solvent, respectively. The additive container holds an additive. The nozzle has a communicating hole for communicating between the main body and the additive container. An appliance for washing clothes includes a detergent storage tank and a drum. Between the detergent storage tank and the drum is a diverter valve which has a detergent inlet connected to the detergent storage tank, an air vent connected to ambient air, and a detergent outlet. The diverter valve has an energized state wherein the detergent inlet is open and the air vent is closed, and a de-energized state wherein the detergent inlet is closed and the air vent is open. A laundry washing machine , comprising:a wash tub disposed within a housing;a detergent dispenser configured to dispense detergent for washing a load disposed in the wash tub;a fluid property sensor configured to sense turbidity and/or conductivity of fluid from the wash tub; anda controller coupled to the detergent dispenser and the fluid property sensor, the controller configured to initiate a fill phase of a wash cycle to dispense water into the wash tub subsequent to a manual addition of detergent by a user to form a wash fluid, determine a detergent deficit in the wash fluid based upon a fluid property value sensed by the fluid property sensor, and cause the detergent dispenser to automatically dispense additional detergent in response to determining the detergent deficit.2. A laundry washing machine and method of operating same for the purpose of automatically determining a soil level of a laundry load from two turbidity readings taken before a washing cycle commences, such as during a pre-wash, filling phase.
