Cellulose textile materials, particularly pile fabrics, which have been dyed or printed with reactive dyes are subsequently treated in an aqueous medium, together or in either order, with a water-soluble cationic dye-fixing agent, and a weak acid or weakly acid salt, such as acetic acid or ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, the usual vigorous soaping after-treatment thereby being rendered unnecessary. Specified cationic dye-fixing agents are compounds having an ammonium group and at least one aliphatic or cycloaliphatic residue of at least 10 carbon atoms; condensation products of formaldehyde with dicyandiamide, or mixtures of urea and dicyandiamide, in the presence of amine or ammonium salts; condensation products of aldehydes with hydroxyalkyl derivatives of amino andimino compounds, in the presence of salts of nitrogen-containing organic or inorganic bases; condensation products of nitrogen-containing complex copper compounds with compounds containing at least once the grouping <FORM:0890518/IV (c)/1> and with low molecular weight aldehydes; the acid salts of the condensates of cyanamide, dicyandiamide, N-substituted dicyandiamides, guanidine and N-substituted guanidines with polyalkyleneimines; arylene and alkylene biguanides; and quaternary salts of polyaminoethylacrylates and other polymerized ethylenically unsaturated compounds containing primary, secondary or tertiary amino groups. Examples are given. Application No. 19783/38 as open to public inspection under Section 91 of the Patent Acts 1907-1946 and Specifications 209,723, 339,962, 366,918, 441,767, 443,588, 464,921, 496,611, 522,539, 535,582, 576,562, 651,139, 657,753, 705,838, 733,741, 736,792, 755,478, 755,519, 797,946, 798,061, 798,121, 805,562, 826,689, 834,304, 837,750, 852,960, 867,546, 868,492, and 868,741 are referred to.
