A periodically occurring first time reference is associated with each rotation of the mating roll and a periodically occurring second time reference is associated with each rotation of the sensing roll. For a received sensor signal, based on whether the received signal is from the sensors of the mating roll or the sensing roll, a tracking segment on the other roll is detected that enters a region of the nip concurrent with the sensor that generated the received signal. The detection is made from either a most-recent-identified first time reference or second time reference. The received signal can then be stored using the detected tracking segment. 1. The invention concerns a press section of a paper machine, through which press section the paper web (W) is passed as a closed draw on support of a press fabric (11, 28) and of a smooth roll face (31). The first nip in the press section is an extended-nip press (NP 1 ) through whose press zone two opposite press fabrics (11, 28) that receive water have been passed. The upper press fabric in the extended-nip press (NP 1 ) is a pick-up fabric (11), which carries the paper web (W) from the forming wire (10). Downstream of the extended-nip press (NP 1 ), the paper web is directed between the two press fabrics (11, 28) onto a reversing suction roll (160) on whose suction zone (160a) the direction of the paper web is turned upwardly. In the press section, there are at least two other nips (N 1 , NP 2 ) that have been formed in connection with the smooth-faced (31) centre roll (30). The centre roll(30) is fitted at a level higher than the level of the extended-nip press (NP 1 ). The first of the other nips (N 1 ) is a roll nip and is formed by the reversing suction roll (160) and the centre roll (30). In this press roll nip, the press fabric consists of the pick-up fabric (11). The second other nip is formed by a second extended-nip press (NP 2 ) which has a press fabric (33) of its own that receives water.

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A roll of the type which is used in paper machines has an inner roll body provided with an outer covering made up of a series of elongated strip portions which circumfer-entially surround the inner roll body while being distributed axially therealong and engaging each other. These strip portions are welded to each other and also may be welded to the inner roll body. The welding of the strip portions is carried out by way of an electron beam type of welding which can be oriented so as to achieve one or more of a number of different types of weld connections between the successive strip portions and, if desired between the strip portions and the inner roll body. Where the strip portions form part of an elongated strip which is helically wound onto the inner roll body, the welding by way of the electron beam can take place simmultaneously with the winding of the strip onto the roll body, and by suitable controls the welding can be con-tinuous welding or the welding may be applied at predetermined intervals to provide a discontinuous type of welding.

Hierdurch wird die Herstellung erleichtert, so wie auch Material erspart wird, und die Auftragung wird damit rationell, da auf Nachbehandlung verzichtet werden kann, so wie auch Umweltbelastung oder Unannehmlichkeiten wegen Staub beseitigt sind.

Collecting roll data associated with a sensing roll and a mating roll forming a nip includes generating sensor signals from a first sensor array on the sensing roll and a second sensor array on the mating roll during rotations of the mating rolls and sensing rolls. A periodically occurring first time reference is associated with each rotation of the mating roll and a periodically occurring second time reference is associated with each rotation of the sensing roll. For a received sensor signal, based on whether the received signal is from the sensors of the mating roll or the sensing roll, a tracking segment on the other roll is detected that enters a region of the nip concurrent with the sensor that generated the received signal. The detection is made from either a most-recent-identified first time reference or second time reference. The received signal can then be stored using the detected tracking segment.

A respective shell support element or disc is disposed axially out-ward of both ends of the support body and the support element has an axially outward, face side. The flexi-ble, liquid impervious endless belt press shell has lateral edge zones. Each edge zone has a respective plurality of outwardly projecting tongues and has cut-outs between neighboring tongues. The edge zone is turned radially inward and its tongues are each respec-tively mounted on a holding element projecting from the face side of the shell support element. Centering ele-ments also on the face side of the shell support ele-ment are placed each for extending into and contacting the base of the cutouts between neighboring tongues for positioning the tongues.
