Композицию получают взаимодействием смеси жирных кислот или их галоидангидридов, содержащей 10-85 мол.% насыщенной жирной кислоты или ее галоидангидрида и 15-90 мол.% ненасыщенной жирной кислоты или ее галоидангидрида. Бумагу проклеивают указанной композицией или водной эмульсией, содержащей проклеивающую композицию. The most common substances used today are not environmentally friendly and they need to be replaced by more environmentally friendly options. Water glass or sodium silicate has been known for a long time having properties which give the wood resistance to rot and fungi and in addition also fire retardant properties. The present invention discloses a method for treatment of wood to improve the flame retardant properties and also the resistance to rot, fungus, mold and insects of a wooden material. Oil is encapsulated in polymeric envelopes by known methods; the resulting microcapsules are uniformly distributed in a paper pulp; paper sheets or strips are produced in the normal way and then subjected to pressure to crush the microcapsules. By this method, the oil is uniformly distributed throughout the paper and staining during the production is avoided. Semi-transparent papers so produced are suitable for photographic applications, as the paper, being less hydrophobic than known oil-impregnated papers, has a good receptivity for photographic emulsions. These papers have also good ink-receptivity and resistance to oils (parchment). Suitable oils include tributyl and tricresyl phosphates, paraffin, ethyl and butyl phthalates, butyl oleate, amyl laurate, diphenyl derivatives and natural fatty oils. Suitable polymeric materials include gelatin, casein, sodium alginate, gum arabic, styrene-maleic anhydride copolymers, urea-formaldehyde resins, polyisocyanates, polyamines, epoxy resins, waxes, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride and vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymers. When dyeing tobacco paper with a humic acid salt soln., pref. of pH 7-8, the humate is fixed by treating the paper with sufficient MgSO4 soln. to insolubilise the humate on paper and render it colour-fast. Fixing with MGSO4 soln. achieves desired brown colour intensity and reduces generation of gas phase components, e.g. CO, on smoking. CO generation is lower than that obtd. on fixing with CaCl2 or Mg(OAc)2. Pref. the MgSO4 soln. has a concn. of 1-5.5 wt.%; the humate is esp. Na humate; and acid-soluble material is pref. removed before dyeing, by treating the humate soln. at pH 5-7.

ABSTRACT An aqueous solution of flame retardant and size material that can be used to treat a web of unsized cellulosic material such as paperboard or the like to impart fire resistant and water repellent properties thereto without markedly decreasing the strength of the treated material is described. The present invention provides a paper quality improver for papermaking, which is excellent in efficiency of improving bulky value, brightness, opacity and the like of pulp sheet, wherein the improving is desirable at lightening paper and increasing amount of deinked pulp, if small amount of the paper quality improver is added; and provides a pulp sheet whose bulky value, brightness, opacity and the like are improved. Further, the present invention provides a dry efficiency improver and a drying method which are able to improve easily a dry efficiency of a wet paper and water-squeezed product. That is to say, in the present invention, a compound is used as the paper quality improver for papermaking, wherein the compound is led to have not less than 4% of lyotropic degree measured by a specific method and the compound satisfies at least two of any ones selected from (i) standard improved bulky value of not less than 0.02 g/cm3, (ii) standard improved brightness of not less than 0.5 point and (iii) standard improved opacity of not less than 0.5 point. That is to say, also, in the present invention, there is obtained the pulp sheet, whereby a compound being led to have not less than 4% of lyotropic degree measured by a specific method is added internally into pulp slurry before or in papermaking step, wherein the pulp sheet satisfies at least two of any ones selected from (1) improved bulky value of not less than 0.02 g/cm3, (2) improved brightness of not less than 0.5 point and (3) improved opacity of not less than 0.5 point. Further, the present invention is use, as a dry efficiency improver, of a compound being led to have not less than 4% of lyotropic degree measured by a specific method and satisfying at least one selected from (i) standard improved bulky value of not less than 0.02 g/cm3, (ii) standard improved brightness of not less than 0.5 point and (iii) standard improved opacity of not less than 0.5 point.

Using the quaternized alkanolamine fatty acid ester compound can improve the opacity of the paper or paperboard product, maintain the opacity of the paper while reducing the use of other opacification aids, such as inorganic fillers and/or pigments, and allow for a reduction in paper grammage without a compromise in opacity. The improvements in paper optical properties are achieved without adversely affecting other characteristics of the paper product such as bulk value, tensile strength, tear index, and the like.
