Elongated particles of polymeric materials are produced by a process comprising freezing an aqueous dispersion of the polymer and then thawing the frozen dispersion to obtain the particles, the concentration and stability of the dispersion prior to freezing being so selected that the polymer on thawing takes the form of particles substantially all of which have lengths substantially greater than their widths or depths and the lengths of the particles lie within the range between substantially 0.02 and 3.00 mm. The particles generally have widths of from 0.0005 mm. to 0.4 mm. and depths of from 0.0005 mm. to 0.04 mm. Polymers specified are natural rubber and butadieneacrylonitrile, butadiene-styrene, or butadienemethacrylate rubbers, polyacrylates, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride and vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymers. The dispersion may be frozen in a thin-walled vessel, in contact with a cooled metal bar or by contacting the dispersion with a cooled travelling surface ...

PROCESS FOR INCREASING THE SOFTNESS OF BASE WEBS AND PRODUCTS MADE THEREFROM

Номер: CA0002468560A1
Принадлежит:

A process for increasing the tactile properties of a base web (38) without adversely effecting the strength of the web is disclosed. In one embodiment, the process includes the steps of placing a creped base web between a first moving conveyor (60) and a second moving conveyor. The conveyors (62) are then wrapped around a shear-inducing roll (64) which creates shear forces and compressive forces that act upon the base web. The shear forces disrupt the web, increasing the softness and decreasing the stiffness of the web. The compressive forces are localized at the areas where the fabric knuckles contact the base web, imparting a unique fabric-imprinted pattern to the web with limited caliper reduction. The shear-inducing roll typically has a relatively small diameter. In some applications, more than one shear-inducing roll may be incorporated into the system.

A papermaking belt and paper made thereon. The papermaking belt comprises a patterned framework (12) and a reinforcing element (14). The papermaking belt may be used as a through air drying belt, a forming wire, a backing wire, a conventional press felt, etc. The papermaking belt has a reinforcing element and a framework extending from the reinforcing element. Intermediate various portions of the framework are deflection conduits (16). The framework is interrupted and subdivided by synclines (18). The framework, synclines and deflection conduits respectively impart first, second and third values of intensive properties to regions of the paper made on these portions of the belt. The value of the intensive property of the regions of the paper corresponding to the synclines is intermediate the value of the regions of the paper corresponding to the framework and deflection conduits. For example, if the papermaking belt according to the present invention is used as a through air drying belt, ...

The present invention provides tissue webs and products having improved z-directional properties. The improved z-directional properties may be achieved by providing the structure with a unique three-dimensional surface topography, which increases the structure's Exponential Compression Modulus (K) and Caliper Under Load (C). By improving both K and C, the present inventors have also been able to provide tissue structures with relatively high Compression Energy (E), which enables the structures to be calendered at high loads without significant loss of sheet bulk or degradation of strength. 1. A multi-ply tissue product comprising a calendered and spirally wound multi-ply tissue web having a machine and a cross-machine direction and a first side with a topographical pattern comprising a plurality of substantially machine direction oriented line elements disposed thereon , the product having a Compression Energy (E) from about 0.0130 to about 0.0150 J/mm , a geometric mean tensile (GMT) from about 500 to about 1 ,500 g/3″ and a sheet bulk greater than about 10.0 cc/g.2. Household tissue paper is obtained by applying a ply process to two or more sheets of base paper. First embossments and second embossments, arranged around the first embossments, are formed on an entire surface of the household tissue paper, a shape of a protruding part of each of the second embossments differing from a shape of a protruding part of each of the first embossments. Hence, because a contact area with an object to be cleaned or the like can be increased, it is possible to enhance surface strength of the household tissue paper being embossed and to enhance wiping performance.

A method of making a fabric-creped absorbent cellulosic sheet. A papermaking furnish is compactively dewatered to form a nascent web having an apparently random distribution of papermaking fiber. The dewatered web is applied to a translating transfer surface that is moving at a transfer surface speed. The web is fabric creped from the transfer surface utilizing a patterned creping fabric. The fabric creping step occurs under pressure in a fabric creping nip defined between the transfer surface and the creping fabric. The creping fabric contacts the transfer surface and applies pressure to the web against the transfer surface such that the fibers of the web are redistributed on the creping fabric to form a web with a drawable reticulum having a plurality of interconnected regions of different local basis weights. 1.
