A pin tumbler cylinder lock includes a shell, a plug, and at least first and second tumbler pins and first and second driver pins. At least the first driver pin extends into a corresponding plug channel when the plug is in a locked condition, such that rotation of the plug with respect to the shell is blocked. The lock is configured such that at least the first driver pin is separated from the first tumbler pin by a gap when the plug is in the locked condition. When the first and second tumbler pins are raised without the proper key and the gap between the first tumbler pin and the first driver pin is eliminated, the second tumbler pin extends across the shear line and into the corresponding shell channel.

A lock with a programming device, includes a stator, a rotor rotatably inserted therein, a keyhole, a longitudinal groove, a set of key followers and a set of locking pins which, under control of a change bar, can be mutually engaged for normal operation and disengaged in a change condition, and can be moved or blocked under control of a stop bar provided with springs which stress the stop bar outwards. The change bar is arranged to keep or assume, even in the change condition, a position in which it retains the engagement among at least some of the key followers and locking pins. A change element displaces the change bar to the position in which it disengages all the key followers from the locking pins, when the user intends to proceed with the change of the key. A device for preventing a faulty programming is provided.

The tumbler disc of claim 9 , wherein the disc is a basic tumbler disc that is free from the peripheral notches for the locking bar of the lock.11. The tumbler disc of claim 9 , wherein the width of the groove is substantially smaller than the width of the locking bar.12. The tumbler disc of claim 11 , wherein the width of the groove is 10-50% of the width of the locking bar.13. A locking apparatus includes a fixed housing with a longitudinal elongated bore between two open ends. One end defines an arcuate track with a new rotational displacement range. A pivoting riser extends from a driver to an elongated retainer moving across a locking core configured with a predefined rotational range. A follower on the driver travels within the track. The core and the driver may be connected and inserted via the same open end for rotation within the bore. When the locking core is unlocked and rotated with an operating key, the riser displaces the retainer to retain the core within the housing, while the follower continues to rotate within the track so that the rotational range of the core is changed to the new rotational displacement range. The apparatus may include the core. The apparatus may exclude the core to allow separate installation for combined rotation with the driver.

A cylinder and key lock mechanism is unlocked when a specific combination of rotation angles of dialer groups, each constituted by one internal dialer disc and by one external dialer ring coupled through teeth, is dialed through rotation of the key having a formed cipher. A security mechanism, being part of the key and driven by the insertion of the key into the cylinder, enables re-programming. When unlocked and with re-programming enabled, re-programming is possible where the inner dialer discs are decoupled from the respective outer dialer rings, the key can be rotated driving only the inner dialer discs and extracted leaving the system in a re-programming configuration. A new key having a different cipher can be inserted and the system exited re-programming with a different coupling between the inner dialer discs and the respective outer dialer rings so that they couple with the new key cipher.

A lock has a locked condition and an unlocked condition comprising a barrel with a circular bore having three splines. A cylindrical plug is adapted to reside in the bore. First, second and retaining tumblers are positioned in tumbler slots, with the first and retaining tumblers biased in one direction toward the first spline and the second tumbler biased in the opposite direction into the second spline. When a first key is inserted, the first and second tumblers are moved against the bias so they retract from the respective splines and the plug can be rotated from the locked and unlocked conditions.
