A retention mechanism for a hinge mechanism of a door. The retention mechanism comprises: (a) a first portion comprising a keeper and a biasing arrangement configured to bias the keeper toward a locking position, while allowing displacement of the keeper from the locking position to a disengaged position; and a second portion comprising a latch, the latch being configured to displace the keeper from its locking position to its disengaged position and comprising a seat for retaining the keeper therein in its locking position, so as to maintain a door in its open position when the keeper being retained in the seat. The retention mechanism, when operating in conjunction with a hinge mechanism of a door, comprises a clearance area in which, during pivoting of the door between its closed and open positions, there is no contact between the keeper and the latch.

This invention relates to a canopy locking and releasing apparatus for mounting a canopy to the fuselage of a vehicle. The canopy locking and releasing apparatus is comprised of several mechanisms. These include internal canopy locking and releasing mechanism, the external (Type A, B, or C) canopy locking and releasing mechanisms, a hinge plate and base mechanism, a hinge retaining pin, and a fuselage locking and releasing device for the hinge base. The apparatus is mounted on the sides of a canopy and attached to the cockpit of a vehicle. This apparatus allows for quick and easy opening of the canopy for routine or emergent access and driver entry or egress. An unique advantage of the canopy side mount locking and releasing hinge mechanism for vehicles is that the cockpit is easily accessible from either side of the vehicle, from the inside and outside of the vehicle, or if necessary, from both sides of the vehicle at once. When in a fully locked configuration, the multi-sided portions of the hinge pins engage the multi-sided center bore of a male portion and a barrel member; when in an unlocked configuration, at least one or both of the hinge pins is depressed such that its multi-sided portion is disengaged from the multi-sided center bore of the barrel member through which it is slidably inserted.

A couple of lug-shaped upper and a lower stopper(4,5) are provided to the hinge leaf between the horizontal hole and the inner end of the flat portion. As each lug is operated integrally with one of an upper and a lower support butt, the end of the hinge leaf is not moved relatively from the doorframe. Therefore, the door is not opened/rotated centering on another point separated from a door retainer handle and a hinge butt even though the hinge pin is removed.
