An aviation obstruction beacon , or aircraft warning light, is mounted on a blade of a wind turbine along with a power supply system, which comprises shielded three-core cabling embedded in a web of the blade, and a control system, which comprises a single-chip microcomputer 4, or System-on-Chip (SoC). The beacon has a visible light source 1 and an infrared transmitter 2 which are controlled according to the input from a light activated switch 3 and a proximity switch; the latter of which detects when a blade is in the 12 o’clock position, i.e. angled vertically (fig.3). The proximity switch may comprise a magnetically activated switch 5, 6. The claimed invention has all components as part of the blade, but disclosed is the proximity switch comprising magnetically activated switches on a rotor hub 5 and on a nacelle cabin 6. Benefit: the aircraft warning light is emitted at the highest point of the turbine; the shielded cabling protects against lightning strike damage.

Wildlife species may be sensitive to transmitted frequencies, such as ultrasonic frequencies above the range of human hearing. For example, bats may avoid areas where ultrasonic frequencies are being emitted, either because the emitted ultrasonic frequency interferes with the echolocation of the bat, or because encountering the ultrasonic frequency is uncomfortable for the bat. In particular, the present invention is directed to an aircraft lighting system with light that is directed toward an aircraft's engines to deter bird strikes. The lighting system for a jet-powered aircraft has at least one light mounted on an aircraft fuselage aimed at an engine inlet of an engine nacelle of the aircraft. The illumination from the light comprises ultraviolet light between 300 and 400 nm in wavelength and the light flashes at a pre-determined frequency preferably between 1 and 3 Hz. Additional lights can be mounted on the engine nacelles to illuminate outer engine nacelles. Preferably, the engine of the aircraft also has blades coated in fluorescent or iridescent paint to increase the reflectivity of the blades to further illuminate the blades of the engine. The lighting system preferably automatically illuminates the engine inlets during take-off and descent.

One embodiment is a rotor blade; a light waveguide extending along a portion of the rotor blade, the light waveguide having a light receiving end and a light issuing end; a light producing device coupled to the light receiving end of the light waveguide and operable to input light into the light waveguide so that the light passes through the light waveguide; a detector coupled to the light issuing end of the light waveguide to measure an amount of light exiting the light issuing end; and an evaluation arrangement operable to receive information from the detector corresponding to the amount of light exiting the light issuing end, and operable to evaluate rotor blade stress based on the amount of light exiting the light issuing end.

According to the present invention, an air break indicator installation unit to prevent a collision with an aircraft by being provided in a vertical column of a wind turbine comprises: a cable fixing unit fixing a power supply cable to supply power to an air break indicator and the column; an indicator support unit to which the air break indicator is attached; and a plurality of column attachment units connecting the indicator support unit and the column, and arranged at equal intervals along a circumference of the column. A magnetic body unit using a neodymium magnet is included in the column attachment units or the cable fixing unit to fixate each of the indicator support unit or the power supply cable to the column.
