The springs have a generally U-shaped cross-section, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown), and may be replaced with helical springs, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), elastomeric springs, Fig. 8 (not shown), or wavy springs combined with sealing strips, Fig. 11 (not shown). The springs may be dispensed with. Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the wraps then being held against the opposite plates and the sides of the grooves by the pressure of working fluid in the grooves.
