A photographic element comprises a support, and (a) unfogged, surface latent image, iodidecontaining silver halide grains and (b) fogged, internal latent image silver halide grains, said grains being in the same layer on the support or in adjacent layers, which are contiguous or separated by an intermediate layer, said element also comprising above or below said layer or adjacent layers, another layer, (1), comprising unfogged silver halide grains in which said halide comprises less than 10 mole per cent iodide, if any, and which have a photographic surface sensitivity which is less than<SP> 1</SP>/ 10 th that of said surface latent image, iodide-containing silver halide grains(a). Grains (a) and some of grains (b) may be in one layer and the remainder of the (b) grains are in an adjacent layer as defined above. In a method for copying retouch in color picture reproduction, color values are initially acquired by image-point-by-image-point trichromatic color picture scanning and digitization. The color values are deposited in a storage medium and are addressable by image point coordinates. With the coordinate pen of a coordinate acquisition means, the retoucher first marks a read point within a first image region from which a pattern is to be taken and a write point within a second image region into which the pattern is to be copied with image point precision. A distance between the read and write points is determined from the acquired image point coordinates and is fixed. The retoucher then acquires all image point coordinates within the first image region with the assistance of a coordinate pen. The image point coordinates of those image points within the second image region exhibiting the respective fixed distance from the acquired image points are simultaneously identified and a double coordinate pen is thus simulated. For precise pattern transfer, the color values of the first image region addressed with the assistance of the double coordinate pen are replaced image-point-by-image-point by the simultaneously addressed color values of the second image region or by values calculated from the color values.

Some embodiments determine a modified ordering for the effects in the queue based on criteria that is related to reducing data exchanges between the processing units when applying the effects. From the modified ordering, a first processing unit applies a first set of the effects before passing resulting data to a second processing unit for application of a second set of the effects. The second processing unit applies a second set of effects to produce the image with the multiple effects and the at least one effect removed or modified.

A method of colour printing upon web or sheet material consists in subjecting the matter to a first operation, whereby it is printed with a first overall pattern comprising zones of spaced substantially square-shaped inked areas, and thereafter subjecting the material to at least a second operation, whereby the first overall pattern is overprinted with at least a second overall pattern substantially identical in configuration, size and colour to the first overall pattern but angularly disposed in relation thereto. Although overprinting with two or more identical patterns is within the scope of the invention good results are apparently obtained with a single overprinting at an angle of between 40 and 50 degrees, and more especially at 45 degrees to the first printing. In the described apparatus intaglio printing cylinders are used, the square image areas being preferably longitudinally and circumferentially aligned.

Abstract of the Disclosure An offset process for multiple color printing in ink dyes of an original pattern to a true likeness is disclosed. The process comprises the steps of copying the pattern photo-graphically through color filter lenses to produce separate negatives in each of the respective colors desired, regulating exposure and developing variables for the separate negatives to achieve selected film emulsion densities on the respective negatives, the densities being reduced from a standard balanced negatives to define an out-of-balance negative, projecting the out-of-balance negatives through a halftone screen for uniformly dividing the pattern into a plurality of dots corresponding in sizes to the intensity of light transmission through the film emulsion to form respective halftone positive dot patterns, photoengraving each of the halftone positive dot patterns respectively on a corresponding lithographic plate, and printing the dot patterns respectively on a transfer medium corresponding to that on the lighograph plates by depositing ink dyes in the respective colors from each of the plates. Also disclosed is an article of manufacture comprising a transfer medium having an out-of-balance dot pattern produced by the process just described, and formed thereon with superimposed sublimable ink beads in registration, the ink beads being heat-transferable onto a textile fabric for producing a continuous tone pattern.

A color correction quantity of each pixel of the image is calculated based on a distance between the target color and the objective color in the color space, a distance between the target color and a color of each pixel in the color space, the correction coefficient, and lightness and chroma of each pixel. The color of each pixel is corrected based on the color correction quantity.

Method of producing color separation negatives with reduced contrast

An initial step of inspection of a positive color transparency is performed to determine the darkest detail area thereof to be reproduced and is subsequently followed by trial enlarger exposing of a color separation negative film sheet through the positive color transparency and a half-tone screen with sufficient light to properly expose the corresponding area of the trial film. Thereafter, the trial film is developed with sufficiently less developing time and greater developer strength (to compensate for the less developing time) to achieve the desired "dot size" in the aforementioned corresponding area of the negative as well as in the lighter detail areas thereof. If sufficient detail of the aforementioned corresponding area is not brought out, a greater exposure time is allowed during exposure of a subsequent trial color separation negative film sheet and correspondingly less development time of the subsequent negative film sheet is allowed until the desired "dot size" throughout the resultant color separation negative is achieved. Thereafter the actual color separation negatives to be utilized are produced using the same exposure time, developing time and developer strength determined by the aforementioned trial steps.
