The display system (4) is driven by an electronically controlled drive device (5, 6, 9). The drive device comprises an unbalance system (5) which is controlled by an electronic switching device (9) and, via a gear (6) drives the display system constructed as a pointer mechanism. The unbalance system (5) can oscillate at a first or at a second frequency. Also present are a quartz oscillator (1) and an electric frequency divider (2). The output of the frequency divider is connected to one input of a bistable flip-flop (3). With each zero passage, the unbalance system generates a voltage pulse which is fed via a pulse-shaping stage (5a) to a further frequency divider (8). The output of the further frequency divider is connected to the other input of the bistable flip-flop. The two said frequency dividers are constructed such that the pulse frequency of the pulse trains fed to the two inputs of the bistable flip-flop deviate only slightly from one another. The electronic switching device (9) is controlled by the pulses occurring at the output of the flip-flop, whose width depends on the phase relationship between the said pulse trains, and the unbalance system is influenced to oscillate either at the first or at the second frequency.

The display correction circuit is used for an electronic clock or watch, with a frequency divider, a counter network and a fluidci crystal digital display. It employs a pulse generator which supplies clock pulses with a variable frequency for correcting the time display. The pulse generator consists of a rotating pulse wheel (30), which has alternate insulating and contact zones (31a, 32) around its periphery, which is contacted by a contact spring (34), providing the pulses as it alternately contacts the insulating and contact zones (31a, 32). A ratchet wheel (35) is fixed to the pulse wheel (30) and is acted on by a ratchet spring (36). A selector switch in the drive circuit for the pulse wheel (30), selects forwards or reverse correction of the time display.

To correct a time displayed by the analogue display, the timepiece assembly includes a correction system which is formed by a mechanical device incorporated into the watch and by an electrical device incorporated into the support. The mechanical device includes a magnet supported by an elastic blade and is arranged in the watch to brake the oscillating mechanical resonator, for example by applying periodic braking, or to momentarily stop its oscillation by exerting a magnetic force on the magnet with a magnetic field produced by a coil of the electrical device and passing through the case of the watch, to carry out essentially a set correction of the time displayed.

The regulating device comprises a sensor, suitable for detecting the passage of the resonator via the neutral position thereof, a measuring device suitable for measuring, on the basis of position signals supplied by the sensor, a time drift of the mechanical oscillator relative to the auxiliary oscillator, and a device for applying to the resonator mechanical braking pulses when a certain time drift is observed. For this purpose, the resonator has a braking surface which extends over at least a certain sector having a certain length along the oscillation axis and against which a braking member may press in order to momentarily brake this resonator.

In a system for synchronizing the mechanical oscillator of a timing device, and including a radio receiver 20 for receiving a periodic radio synchronizing signal, and a winding BS connected to receive the output of the receiver thereby to synchronize the oscillator, a switching device 22 is controlled by the oscillator and electrically connected to prevent energization of the synchronizing winding except when the oscillator is within a predetermined limited range of positions in which the synchronizing signal is effective and which corresponds to a small fraction of the repetition period of the synchronizing signal. The switching device 22 may be in series with the winding BS as illustrated in Fig. 2, or in the power supply circuit or a stage of the receiver 20. One form of switching device 22 comprises a transistor in the emitter-collector circuit of which the coil BS is connected, and in the base-emitter circuit of which is connected a pick-up coil, positioned in relation to a moving magnet system carried by a balance or pendulum so that the transistor is rendered conducting during a desired fraction of the period of oscillation of the balance or pendulum. In other embodiments, Figs.6 and 7 (not shown) a switching transistor is rendered conducting by pulses from a circuit maintaining the oscillations of a balance and comprising a further transistor and drive and pickup coils; whilst in further embodiments, Figs.9 to 11 (not shown) the radio synchronizing signal is applied to one or both of the drive and pick-up coils in the oscillation maintaining circuit, the transistor of which functions as the switching device. The system may also include a filtering circuit Fig. 1 (not shown) for rendering ineffective all parasitic signals received during the intervals between the synchronizing signals.
