The ground fault trip indicator utilizes the magnetic flux of a permanent magnet in a first flux path to maintain a movable armature biased against a spring. An electromagnet is disposed to provide magnetic flux in opposition to the magnetic flux of the permanent magnet. The electromagnet is not energized for providing the opposing flux until a pulse is received from an appropriate ground fault trip detecting circuit. When the appropriate pulse of energy is applied to the electromagnet, a portion of the flux of the permanent magnet is cancelled allowing the spring to force the armature into a new position. In this position the flux of the permanent magnet is reestablished in a second flux path. When the indicator is in the latter position indication of the occurrence of a ground fault is given.

An improved GFCI monitors the balance of current passing through the device, and as long as the difference between current coming in and going out stays within a given range, normally 5 ma, the device remains in the active setting. If sensed current does not remain in balance, or within the given range, a voltage source is generated, signaling the comparator/controller to trip a solenoid. A solenoid trip results in disconnection of both line and neutral on the face contacts, with power being shut off to the load, and with the load terminals disconnecting all receptacles downstream. A mechanical or electronic switch, being located across the SCR, is activated by a thermal sensor detecting abnormal temperatures, which may also trigger the solenoid, in addition to it being triggered when leakage is detected. The sensors can be placed directly on to the surfaces to be monitored for maximum heat transfer.

The present invention discloses a leakage current detecting circuit-breaker with a flexible shield cord, which comprises a detection circuit, a trigger circuit and a tripping mechanism. The detection circuit comprises a flexible shield cord, a zero sequence current transformer and diodes connected in series. The flexible shield cord comprises a foil wrapped around outer insulating layers of a live line and a neutral line and a tinned copper wire between the outer insulating layers and the foil. The flexible shield cord senses an abnormal or fault signal of a power line, and the zero sequence current transformer amplifies the abnormal or fault signal to such an extent as to trigger the trigger circuit. The diodes comprise a fifth diode and a sixth diode; anodes of the fifth diode and the sixth diode are connected to each other, and cathodes of the fifth diode and the sixth diode are respectively connected to the live line and the neutral line. The leakage current detecting circuit-breaker is of low production cost and strong anti-interference capacity.

A method, system, and computer program product for detecting and interrupting a ground fault in a direct current (DC) power circuit are provided in the illustrative embodiments. A first value of a first current flow over a first part of the DC power circuit is compared with a second value of a second current flow over a second part of the DC power circuit. A voltage is generated, wherein the voltage is proportional to a difference between the first and the second values. Responsive to the voltage exceeding the threshold voltage for a threshold time, a signal output is produced, the signal configured to cause a short-circuit in the first part of the DC power circuit. The first part of the DC power circuit is interrupted responsive to the short-circuit. 1. A method for detecting and interrupting a ground fault in a direct current (DC) power circuit , the method comprising:comparing a first value of a first current flow over a first part of the DC power circuit with a second value of a second current flow over a second part of the DC power circuit;generating a voltage, wherein the voltage is proportional to a difference between the first and the second values;outputting, responsive to the voltage exceeding the threshold voltage for a threshold time, a signal, the signal configured to cause a short-circuit in the first part of the DC power circuit; andinterrupting the first part of the DC power circuit responsive to the short-circuit.2. A current sensing transformer having a pair of primary windings and a single secondary or sense winding is provided. The primary windings are connected so as to compare the input current applied to an active electrode with the output current from an indifferent plate. When the comparison is unequal, the sense winding generates an error signal that warns the operator of the electrosurgery apparatus of a possible electrical burn situation. Alternatively, the primary windings are connected so as to sense the equality of output currents from two indifferent plates. Lack of equality causes an error signal to be generated to warn the operator.

According to the present invention, by forming the second type earth leakage breaker having the switch handling direction the same as a first type earth leakage breaker and the distribution box with a switch handle aligned in one direction using the same, it is possible to provide a distribution box with a switch handle aligned in one direction that prevents a user from malfunctioning the handle of the earth leakage breaker.
