ABSTRACT A cryogenic device for releasably connecting one conductor, especially a stranded conductor, to another conductor, especially a wire wrap post is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment the device comprises a heat recoverable metallic band disposed about a socket member having at one end at least a pair of resilient tines that firmly grasp the wire wrap post when the heat recoverable metallic band is in its small diameter state; a passageway is drilled in the other end of the socket member and communicates with the slot defined by the tines and serves to receive the end of the wire wrap post and reduce the possibility of its tilting. A portion of the socket member is preferably collapsed to provide a channel for receiving the conductor in a soldered connection and the device is advantageously insulated by a sleeve of heat recoverable plastic material.

When heated above its phase change temperature, the shape-memory core (90) assumes a sinuous configuration which tightly presses the encircling conductive wires (92, 94) against the electrically conductive interior surfaces of the vias (30, 31) to provide mechanical and electrical contact from layer to layer.

Metal ingots for forming single-crystal shape-memory alloys (SMAs) may be fabricated with high reliability and control by alloying thin layers of material together. In this improved method, a reactive layer (e.g., aluminum) is provided in thin flat layers between layers of other materials (e.g., copper and layers of nickel). When the stacked layers are vacuum heated in a crucible to the melting temperature of the reactive layer, it becomes reactive and chemically bonds to the other layers, and may form eutectics that, as the temperature is further increased, melt homogeneously and congruently at temperatures below the melting temperatures of copper and nickel. Oxidation and evaporation are greatly reduced compared to other methods of alloying, and loss of material from turbulence is minimized. 1. Once at the desired site, the restraining sheath is retracted to deploy the embolic protection device, which captures flowing emboli generated during the interventional procedure. Linear pseudoelastic nitinol is used in the medical device as distinct from non-linear pseudoelastic (i.e., superelastic) nitinol.

A Contact according to an aspect of the present invention is formed by laminating a shape memory alloy film on a surface of a metal spring film, and the shape thereof is a conical spiral. A manufacturing method therefor is composed of 11 steps including a step of preparing a sacrificial metal film, a step of forming a resist cone, a step of patterning a resist film, a step of preparing a shape memory alloy film, and the like. Since an organic resist material has poor heat resistance, the sacrificial metal film is formed in advance, the resist is removed before sputtering of the shape memory alloy film, the sacrificial metal film is removed after sputtering of a shape memory alloy and a heat treatment, which are performed at high temperatures, so as to lift off an excess shape memory alloy film.

An attachment ring (16) is provided for attaching a shield (18) of an electrical cable (12) to a backshell (14). The attachment ring includes an annular body (26) including a shape memory material that is heat recoverable. The body is configured to extend at least partially around the shield and a fitting (24) of the backshell to hold the shield on the fitting in contact with the fitting. The body includes a first segment (28) including an end (50) having a connection member (58a). The body also includes a second segment (30) that is discrete from the first segment. The second segment includes an end (54) having a connection feature (60a). The connection feature of the second segment is interlocked with the connection member of the first segment to connect the first and second segments together at the ends such that the first and second segments define at least a portion of a length of the body.

A shape memory alloy (SMA) actuator made from tubular structures is disclosed. The current invention is a tubular monolithic SMA actuator made from a tubular monolithic SMA substrate of NiTi, CuAlNi, CuAl, CuZnAl, TiV, or TiNb. The tubular monolithic SMA actuator has a first end, a second end and a middle portion, and can be made out or a substrate with a cross-section shape such as a circle, an ellipse, a rectangle or any irregular shape. The middle portion is formed into an actuator pattern that maintains unity and electrical continuity, along the path of the actuator pattern, with the first end and second end. The actuator pattern can be any number of patterns, for example, a Greek key pattern or a zigzag pattern. A first electrode is optionally formed in the first end and a second electrode is formed in the second end of the tubular monolithic SMA actuator.

Da der mindestens eine Aktor durch die bei mechanischem Lockern der Kontaktstelle auftretende Wärme in eine Kraft umwandelt, die der Verminderung der Kontaktkraft entgegenwirkt, wird die erforderliche Kontaktkraft an der Kontaktstelle selbsttätig wiederhergestellt, ohne dass zusätzliche Mittel zur Überwachung oder Verstellung erforderlich sind. Dadurch hat die elektrische Verbindungsvorrichtung einen einfachen Aufbau und bietet eine hohe Sicherheit gegenüber einem Lockern der stromführenden Teile. Einem erhöhten Übergangswiderstand und damit verbundener Entstehung hoher Temperaturen wird entgegengewirkt, und einer Beeinträchtigung, einem Ausfall oder einem Brand der Anlage, die die elektrische Verbindungsvorrichtung aufweist, wird vorgebeugt.
