The picture is stored in picture memories (3, 4, 5, 6) in the form of digital picture signals, and displayed on a monitor (7). The contour is coarsely preset by an x-y co-ordinate acquisition device (18). The present disclosure relates generally to encoding signals for spot colors. In one implementation a substitute spot color+CMY tint is selected to replace an original spot color. The CMY tint can be transformed to carry an encoded signal. Of course, other features, combinations and technology are described herein. 1.
