[Class 8 (i)] An electrically-driven vacuum cleaner is provided with a short handle 6 for use in cleaning off the floor, and with a long handle 12 fitted into a forked socket 11 which pivotally carries a wheeled carriage 14 having a tubular portion 17 capable of fitting over and being clamped to the short handle ; the wheels 16 and the nozzle 5 support the machine for floor cleaning. The nozzle may be provided with coupling means as described in Specification 495,698. The handle may have stops for holding it in certain positions, or it may be capable of swinging freely. A reversible plug contact member 9 and a switch 27 are provided.
