Class 64(1) In a water heater with a gas or other burner 15, water flows down an assemblage of upwardly extending apertured metal sheets 23, 24 spaced a small distance apart, and the apertures in the sheets are so formed that the water tends to flow from the outer surface of the assemblage into the small space between the sheets, so as to make intimate contact with hot gases flowing through the apertures. In the form shown there are two sheets of expanded aluminium bent into cylinders, the metal around the apertures sloping downwardly towards the space between the sheets. Water is sprayed from an annular pipe 32 on to a domed or conical cap 37 supported by the assemblage, and against the upper cover plate 31. The apertured cylinders are carried by an annular trough 17 of vitreous enamelled steel, and at the top are spaced from the aluminium lining 27 by radial ribs 33 on a ring 34.
