Improvements in or relating to steam traps
Реферат: 659,907. Steam traps. PORTER, W. H. Feb. 16, 1949, No. 4208. [Class 64(ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] Relates to a steam trap incorporating a release valve 23 which is opened by the pressure of condensate from an inlet 11 thereon and closed by the pressure on a piston 28 of flash steam from the condensate. According to the invention, in such a trap wherein the piston is accessible to condensate which has not previously passed the release valve, the release valve 23 co-operates with an annular seating 25 at the outlet end of a nipple 21 through which the condensate discharges, such that the cross sectional area of the release valve which constitutes the effective area on which the direct pressure of the condensate acts for opening equals the cross section of the bore of the nipple. A separate valve 31 regulates the admission of condensate to an expansion chamber 27 in which the piston, which may be provided with small through passages, fits loosely. Condensate from the inlet 11 fills an annular cavity 15 between outer and inner hollow bodies 10, 13 and a sump 37 and most of it passes, by ducts (not shown), to a top chamber 19. From thence the condensate passes to the outlet 12 by way of holes 26. The regulating needle valve 31 is screwed into a plug 30 to a distance which determines a leakage flow, through an orifice 32, of condensate from holes 36 by way of circumferential grooves 35 in the valve stem. When the condensate is hot enough it flashes into steam in the expansion chamber 27 and raises the piston 28 to close the release valve 23 on the adjustable nipple 21. Gauze filters 40 are arranged at the top and bottom of the trap. In a modification the inlet 11 communicates with the sump 37 either directly or by a downwardly-directed duct in the outer body 10. A base plug with a circumferential groove and radial holes for fluid flow replaces the base cap 16 and the cavity 15 communicates directly with the top chamber 19. The traps may be used in an inverted position. Specification 607,547 is referred to.
