[Also in Division D1] A method of adhering a sulphur-curable chainsaturated α-olefine hydrocarbon copolymer to a polyester substrate, e.g. in the form of a fabric comprises coating the substrate firstly with either (I) a mixture of a polyepoxide and an aromatic polyisocyanate or an adduct thereof, or (II) a mixture of 2-pyrrolidone, a polyepoxide and an alkali metal hydroxide, and then with an aqueous dispersion containing (a) a chlorosulphonated polyethylene and (b) a phenolaldehyde type resin, drying the latter coating and curing the hydrocarbon copolymer while pressing it in contact with the coated surface of the substrate. In preferred embodiments, mixture (II) also contains formaldehyde or a blocked polyisocyanate or the substrate coated with mixture (I) is coated with a mixture of a resorcinol-formaldehyde resin and a vinyl pyridine copolymer latex prior to applying the aqueous dispersion. The polyester is preferably polyethylene terephthalate. Specified copolymers are those of ethylene, propylene and 1,4- hexadiene, ethylene and 1:4-hexadiene, ethylene, propylene and dicyclopentadiene, ethylene, propylene and 5-methylene-2-norbornene and ethylene, propylene and 1:5-cyclo octadiene. Specified phenols are phenol and resorcinol. Specified polyepoxides are the reaction products of epichlorohydrin with glycerol or bis-phenol-A. Examples are given.
