Relates to an improved block for the construction of chimneys and similar structures involving an internal flue. It is made of artificial stone, concrete, earthenware, or some similar or suitable material by moulding the material to the form of a rectangular block as shown in perspective, Fig. 1, or to a shape adapted for several flues. A hole, square in section, passes centrally through the block and serves to form the flue. The top and bottom faces of the block are grooved, as shown in cross-section in Fig. 2, for the reception of mortar or cement, and when one block is placed above another, the outer and inner edges of the blocks come together and the mortar remains unexposed to the atmosphere or smoke. The sides of the blocks are provided with grooves for the insertion of the workman's hands.
