Branches and mains, connecting.-The number of holes in the sides of ships are reduced by forming a junction between the scupper pipe and the ashejector pipe, so that both discharge through one opening. Several examples are described in the Specification. In one example, Fig. 1, the scupper pipe e and the ash-ejector pipe a are united to a junction box b, and provided with non-return valves. The valve-boxes are fitted with inspection covers i. In another example, the valves are omitted, the box b being a simple junction pipe. Fig. 3 shows an example in which the ash-ejector pipe a projects into the junction box b. The projecting portion may be either eccentric or concentric with the junction box, and formed separate from the ejector pipe, and resting on the seating b<1>. A valve may be fitted to the scupper pipe e.
