The pillars T, connecting the rings E, D, are hollow tubes, and the glass B is held in position by a ring D<1> screwed in the ring D. The reservoir A, when screwed in the ring D, is locked by a rod N which passes down holes 0, O<1> and drops in a recess R. The ring F, to which is riveted the bonnet C, is then screwed down on the ring E ; this prevents the removal of the rod N. The final operation of locking the lamp is thus made to consist in locking the two rings E, F together. This may be done by a magnetically-released bolt L or in any other way. A conical chimney I is carried by the ring E and is completely surrounded by wire gauze K. Air to support combustion is admitted by openings H, and passes through gauze-covered slots G and down the tubes T, and is supplied to the bottom of the flame through the central opening in the ring D'. The lamp is lighted by a fusee tape t from a coil on the spindle h being drawn between a curved guide g and a knife-blade k, by winding up the ratchet d by means of a button placed outside the lamp. This lighting-mechanism is placed in the space M in the reservoir, the knife-blade k being level with the top of the wick.
