An Improved Gas Producer.
Реферат: 9396. Reese, L. C. April 25. Gas-producers.-A gas-producer for the manufacture of gas from coke, anthracite, coal, peat, and the like consists of a vertical shell, preferably cylindrical, closed at top and bottom, and divided into three compartments. The top plate d of the fuel reservoir a, which is of such a size as to hold fuel enough at least for one day, has a feed-opening e, closed by an airtight lid g having a slide g<1>, and pokeholes f closed by plugs h or the like. The furnace part b has a brick lining i, tapered at the top for the easy descent of the fuel in the reservoir a, and an air-inlet tube k at its upper part ending in the channel k<1> within the lining i and open to the furnace, the supply of air being regulated by the valve k'. The gas produced passes out by the pipe l, preferably communicating with an annular channel l<1> open to the furnace. The grate, which forms the bottom of the furnace b, consists of hollow firebars p<1> provided with openings p<2>, and is placed between annular plates p' preferably in a slightly inclined position, the space between the plates and the bars being filled up in a suitable manner, leaving only the channel p'. Steam is generated from a measured quantity of water in a coiled pipe o of rectangular section which has a water inlet o<2> and steam outlets o', the steam passing into the channel p<4>, into the firebars, and through the openings p<2> into the fuel ; or the coil or jacket may surround the gas-outlet tube, or may be placed in a gas-cleaning device. The opening m is for stoking and for removing large clinkers, and is closed by a door m<1> provided with a slide m<2> for use as an air inlet in emergency. The ashpit c has a door q for removal of ashes, and an air-inlet tube r provided with a valve for regulating the supply of air. The furnace b has a sighthole s immediately below the air inlet k. If coke is used as fuel, the slide g and the air inlet k are omitted, and the gas outlet l is arranged at the upper part of the furnace b.
