A series of longitudinal expansion bars are provided on the drum of a rotary engine as a substitute for the pressure plate in the cylinder wall, and means are provided for tightening the ends of the drum in the cylinder covers, together with an improved sliding vane and shoes therefor. The drum 13 is secured to collars 15 on the driving- axle 16, and is provided with projections 21 fitting in recesses 22 in these collars. The drum is provided with recesses 42 for the reception of spring- pressed expansion bars 43, which have grooved ends 45 to receive the tongues 46 of expanding rings 47 surrounding the collars 15 and abutting against the ends of the drum. The tongues 46 also fit in recesses of the drum, and the tongues are backed therein by springs. The vane 24 slides in the slot 23 in the drum, the slot being provided with friction rollers 25 and spring-pressed packing- bars 26. The shoes 29 carried by the vane are made in two parts dovetailed together and provided with expanding coil springs. The face of the shoe is slotted longitudinally, the outside slots being provided with friction rollers 34 and the inner ones with expansion bars 33. The vane 24 has T-shaped side expansion plates 35 having stems fitting in recesses 36 containing springs 37, their faces bearing against spring-backed plates 38 in recesses of the collars 15. The drum 13 has recesses 41 for the reception of the shoes 29. Valves and.valve-gear.-Two port passages 50, 51 are led into the cylinder from the port 52 of the conical valve 53, which connects with the supply pipe 54. The shank 55 of the valve is connected by levers to the shanks of the conical valves 62, 69, the ports of which communicate with exhaust passages 64, 71, so that all the valves are operated by one lever.
