Washing-machines.- Apparatus for washing with warm and hot water, rinsing, and blueing comprises a number of tanks a, heated by coils b and supplying the various liquids through valved pipes e to the clothes, which are carried flat between pairs of perforated belts c, d. The water passes through into tanks g, whence it is either returned by pumps h to the upper tanks or discharged through cocks o. Fresh liquid is mixed in the smaller vessels n. The belts pass over rollers i and are pressed together by rollers j compressed by springs j<1>. The clothes are scrubbed in the second section by brushes k, moving in guides p and pressed together by elliptical springs g. These brushes may be reciprocated, for example, by means of eccentrics r on a shaft s from which the rollers i may be driven by spur and worm gearing. After blueing, the clothes are partly dried by a blast from a fan m. The upper and lower belts may receive lateral oscillatory motions in opposite directions by moving the rollers i endwise.
