Improvements in Looms for Weaving Tufted Pile Fabrics, and more Particularly relating to Looms for Weaving "Moquette" Carpets of Great Width.

Looms, pile forming and cutting in.-In looms for weaving Moquette carpets and other tufted pile fabrics, the spool-frame carrying-chains G are arranged in pairs, and each pair carries a series of spool-frames g<5> in alignment with those in the other pairs. The chains G are driven by sprocketwheels g, and pass over idle sprocket-wheels g' and curved guides g'. Each spool frame g<5> is held between a pair of chains by spring pawls, which are retracted to shift the frame to the transferrer h by means of tripper arms g<11> on a rock-shaft g<12> actuated by an arm g<13> and connecting-rod g<14> from a cam on the shaft E. The transferrer brings the spool frame into position for the ends of yarn to be seized by a pair of nippers J, and moves upward to draw off the required length for the tufts, which are then severed by a pair of cutting- blades i<1>, i<2>, carried by arms i, i<3> on the shaft I, and operated by cams and connections from the shaft E. When the cutting-mechanism is in its lower position, the blade i<1> rests upon a number of adjustable arms i<25>. A shot of weft is thrown across in the stationary shuttle race C, and is brought into position for beating-up by the lay F by means of arms r on a rock-shaft R. After the weft has been beaten up, the nippers J carry the ends of the tuft threads around it, and then allow them to be brought into position by a hinged comb L, which acts also as temples. The sprocket-wheel g may be driven step by step in either direction, to allow reversed patterns to be made, by two oppositely-acting sets of pawl and ratchet mechanism operated by cams on the shaft E, which carries all the cams necessary for giving the requisite motions to the various parts of the loom.
