The ascension pipe H is fixed to the lower end of the retort K and dips as shown into the hydraulic main A ; the gas passes directly through the weir valve C to the gas main E, while the tar passes by the U to the chamber B, and thence through the valve C by the chamber D to the tar main F. G is a sludge tap for clearing the sediment of the hydraulic main into the tar main.
