Реферат: A water-insoluble metal salt of a mercapto-thiazole or -isothiazole is prepared by reacting a water-soluble salt of the mercaptan with a water-soluble salt of the metal in an aqueous medium, the resulting insoluble metal mercaptide being contacted with ammonia or an amine present in the aqueous medium during or after formation of the insoluble salt. The metals are preferably those, such as zinc, cadmium and mercury, which are capable of forming water-soluble ammine complexes with ammonia or an amine. Specified mercaptans include 2- and 4-mercapto thiazoles and mercapto-aryl thiazoles; alkyl and aryl substituents may be present. The ammonia or amine may be used in amounts of up to 10% by weight of the mercaptan. Specified amines include methylamine, dimethylamine and ethylamine. In a typical example, aqueous ZnSO4 is added to a hot solution of 2-mercapto benzthiazole in aqueous Na2CO3 whereupon a precipitate of the zinc mercaptide is formed and aqueous NH3 is added and the product is filtered off; in a comparative experiment, the ammonia addition is omitted yielding the zinc mercaptide more contaminated with free mercaptan.
