[Also in Group XXIX] On the completion of a stroke of an hydraulically actuated plunger of a cable cutter the pressure is prevented from rising by a travel limit valve. A single-acting plunger 3 carrying a blade works in a cylinder 1 supplied by a pump 21. A rod 33 is provided in a bore 28 in the plunger and is urged by a spring 34 into closing engagement with an outlet 31. At the end of a stroke of the plunger a shoulder in the bore engages a collar 41 on the rod which is thereby removed from the outlet. In a modification a manually-operated plunger pump draws liquid from a reservoir through a check valve, and delivers to the cylinder through a port closed by the rod 33 which acts as a non-return valve until the end of the stroke is reached, whereupon the port remains permanently open and no further power can be applied since the liquid merely moves back and forth between the cylinder and the pump with the check valve closed. U.S.A. Specification 2,384,130 is referred to.
