Process for restoring responsiveness to medication in tissue of living organisms

Номер: AU2015380376A1
Принадлежит: Griffith Hack

A process for restoring responsiveness to medication in eye tissue, namely retinal tissue, that is unresponsive to medication. The process utilizes a laser source for generating a confluent, contiguous laser light beam. The laser light beam is preferably a subthreshold diode micropulse laser beam which is optically shaped through an optical lens or mask. The tissue is then exposed to the confluent, contiguous laser light beam and allowed to recover for thirty days before administering medication to which the tissue was unresponsive.

A system and method are disclosed for stimulating activation of heat shock proteins and facilitating protein repair in cells and tissues in order to take advantage of the remediative and restorative nature of the increased heat shock protein activation or production and the facilitation of protein repair, while not damaging the cells and tissues. This is accomplished by treating a specified target area with an ultrasound or electromagnetic radiation source which is pulsed and applied or focused to one or more small areas in order to achieve the necessary temperature rise or sufficiently stress the cells and tissue to stimulate heat shock protein production or activation and facilitate protein repair, while allowing the temperature to decay sufficiently quickly so as not to damage or destroy the treated tissue.

ILLUMINATOR AND METHOD FOR PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY

Номер: CA0002108654C

An illuminator for photodynamic therapy includes a bulb, a condenser lens assembly and a filter assembly. The filter assembly includes the following components in an optical path: (1) a high-pass filter to filter out light having wavelengths below a first wavelength value; (2) a low-pass dichroic filter to filter out light having wavelengths above a second wavelength value; and (3) a dichroic mirror which reflects light having wavelengths between the first wavelength value and the second wavelength value and which transmits infrared light. An exit lens assembly directs light transmitted through the high-pass filter and the low-pass dichroic filter and reflected by the dichroic mirror onto a patient for photodynamic therapy. The condenser lens assembly and the exit lens assembly scramble the beam to ensure that the patient is illuminated with light which is highly uniform in both intensity sand spectral characteristics (color) throughout the illuminated area.

ILLUMINATOR FOR PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY

Номер: US20100191172A1

An apparatus and method for photodynamic therapy or photodynamic diagnosis using an illuminator comprising a plurality of light sources generally conforming to a contoured surface and irradiating the contoured surface with substantially uniform intensity visible light. The light sources may comprise generally U-shaped fluorescent tubes that are driven by electronic ballasts. Adjustment of the ballast voltage controls the output power of the tubes. The tubes are supported by a sheet-metal or plastic housing and are covered by a polycarbonate shield which directs cooling airflow within the unit and prevents glass-patient contact in the vent of tube breakage. An aluminum reflector located behind the tubes increases both the output irradiance and the uniformity of the output distribution. The spacing of the U-shaped tubes is varied to increase the output at the edges of the illuminator to make the output more uniform. Also, different portions of the tubes are cooled at different amounts, to ...

On the other hand, unattended treatment of uneven or rugged areas can be challenging in terms of maintaining proper distance or contact with the treated tissue, mostly on areas which tend to differ from patient to patient (e.g. facial area). Delivering energy via a system of active elements embedded in a flexible pad adhesively attached to the skin offers a possible solution. The unattended approach may include delivering of multiple energies to enhance a visual appearance.

A non-invasive method for treating neurodegenerative diseases. Light energy is applied externally to a patient's head to stimulate different neurological pathways, reduce inflammation and stimulate mitochondria function in the brain. The light is applied near the area of the brain that is malfunctioning or that is associated with the source of the disease to be treated. The treatment can be enhanced by activating the cranial nerves while the light is applied. The wavelength of the applied light range from about 400-760 nm, and in a preferred embodiment is about 640 nm. The applied light energy can be applied with a pulse frequencies that mimic healthy brain function of alpha, beta, delta, and theta waves. The pulse frequencies can be applied series, alternately, or simultaneously. The light can be emitted from the same light emitter or from multiple emitters and is preferably laser light.
