Having reached the idea that a configuration might be useful, in which an adhesive having satisfactory adhesiveness to both metal and resin materials is laminated on a metal layer for selectively heating a hot-melt adhesive layer by dielectric heating, the present inventor has made extensive studies and found that an adhesive material in which a layer of an adhesive including a modified polyolefin resin is laminated on a metal layer, is capable of adhesion without impairing the designability of an adherend by induction heating.

A security adhesive strip (1) comprises a polymer film (2), the refractive index and/or boundary layer structure of which may be locally altered by heating. An absorbing layer (6), with an absorbing dye, is arranged beneath the polymer film (2), for the at least partial absorption of a writing beam directed at the absorbing layer (6), at least partial transmission of the local heat generated to the polymer film (2) occurs and thus brings about local changes. An adhesive layer (8) is provided below the absorbing layer (6). The adhesion of adhesive layer (8) to the absorbing layer (6) is greater than the adhesion to the polymer film (2). A partially transparent reflection layer (4) is provided between the polymer film (2) and the absorbing layer (6).

The invention provides normally tacky and pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions comprising a polymer having an inherent viscosity greater than 0.2 and having in its backbone at least a major portion by weight of polymerized monomeric acrylic or methacrylic acid ester of a non-tertiary alcohol and, having attached to the backbone, polymeric moieties having a weight average molecular weight of above about 2,000 and a T g of above about 20° C. The number and composition of the attached moieties in the polymer is such as to provide the adhesive composition with a shear holding value of at least 50 minutes. Sheet materials coated with the adhesive composition are also provided. Preferred adhesive composition comprises a copolymer monomeric acrylic or methacrylic acid ester of non-tertiary alcohol and macromolecular monomer. The copolymer may also include up to 12% by weight of a copolymerizable polar monomer such as acrylic acid.

An adhesive security tape ( 1 ) comprises a polymer film ( 2 ) whose refractive index and/or interface structure can be changed locally by heating. Disposed below the polymer film ( 2 ) is an absorber layer ( 6 ) comprising an absorber dye set up at least partly to absorb a write beam directed onto the absorber layer ( 6 ), to emit at least some of the generated heat to the polymer film ( 2 ) locally, and in doing so to undergo local change itself. Below the absorber layer ( 6 ) there is an adhesive layer ( 8 ). The adhesion between the adhesive layer ( 8 ) and the absorber layer ( 6 ) is greater than the adhesion to the polymer film ( 2 ). There is preferably a partly transparent reflection layer ( 4 ) between the polymer film ( 2 ) and the absorber layer ( 6 ).
