A method for filling tank cars with pellet-shaped particles is also provided, the method comprising transporting the t-shaped pipe to the roof of a tank car, the tank car roof having one or more openings for receiving materials. The method further comprising transporting a hose to the top of the tank car, the hose adapted to conduct pellet-like particles under pressure. The hose is then connected to the t-shaped pipe to form a hose fitting and connected to the truck tank. The t-shaped pipe is introduced into an opening in the roof of the tank car and positioned inside the tank of the tank car approximately adjacent the roof of the tank car. The pellet-like particles are pumped from the truck through hose, through the bores of the t-shaped pipe and into tank car to fill the tank car.

The telescopic strut is used for filling and emptying tanker vehicles. It consists of flexible pipework and telescopic parts to support this. It has a base (1) mounted to pivot on a solid base on the tank. On this is a pivoted support, controlled by a pneumatic ram (20) and a fork (12) sliding on the support. The sliding is controlled by a second ram (17) and a spout pivoted on the fork and supported by a spring compensator also pivoted on the fork. The spout supports the flexible pipe connecting the tank to the work point. The pipe can slide freely in the spout, which is bent to slightly less than 90 deg.

The spout (100) includes a first member (104) and a second member (106). The first member (104) includes an elongated and generally tubular first main body (134) having two segregated and parallel internal passageways, one being an air duct (146) and the other being a liquid duct (148). Both ducts (146, 148) are substantially straight and substantially unobstructed along the entire first main body (134) but the air duct (146) ends with at least one constricted opening (180) through which the air circuit exits the air duct (146). A valve (140) is juxtaposed to the rear end of the first main body (134) and is made integral therewith. The valve (140) engages a valve seat (162) provided at the rear end of a tubular inner conduit (152) positioned inside the second member (106) and in which a rear section (138) of the first main body (134) is slidingly axially movable. The valve (140) is normally maintained closed by a biasing element (240). The spout (100) may be provided with a child resistant closure (CRC) device (130).

The axially movable valve has a cylindrical head at one end thereof and a connector at the opposite end thereof for fixing it to the bottom of the bellows. A spout affixed to a fluid-dispensing container that allows unobstructed fluid flow until the spout end becomes immersed. The anti-spill and self-venting features are achieved by establishing an airway from the top of the spout and extending into the container in the form of a flexible tube. A float attached to the tube lifts the end to the surface of the fluid within the container. As fluid exits, air enters the container allowing for smooth fluid discharge. When the spout end becomes immersed, fluid is drawn into the vent instead of air. An air vacuum develops that is equal to fluid pressure within the container. Fluid flow is interrupted until the container is returned to an upright position. This allows for fluid to evacuate from the floating vent and back into the contained. The self-venting feature of the spout is then reestablished.

Apparatus and methods for distributing and dispensing a potable liquid are claimed. The apparatus comprises a faucet, and a storage tank. A conveying channel is provided for sanitarily conveying potable liquid from an outside source to the tank. The conveying channel includes a sanitary fitting containing an inlet channel. The fitting provides a detachable sanitary connection between the conveying channel and the source. A mechanism for draining free-standing liquid from the inlet channel is also provided. The inlet channel of the fitting terminates at a first coupling which contains an acme sanitary thread. A flow producing mechanism cooperates with the tank and the faucet for causing a flow of liquid from the tank upon the opening of the faucet. A discharge channel is connected to the faucet at one end and connected to receive the flow of liquid at its other end. The discharge channel conveys the flow of potable liquid to the faucet. The source comprises a vehicle with a supply tank mounted thereon. A mechanism, such as a pump, cooperates with the supply tank to cause a flow of liquid from the tank. A supply coupling contains an acme sanitary thread which is configured to closely mate with the acme thread of the first coupling. A hose is connected to the supply coupling at one end and connected to receive the flow of liquid from the supply tank at the other end. The hose conveys the flow of liquid to the supply coupling.

A sleeve movably responsive to inserting the conduit into the opening moves the closure plate from the closed position to the open position. The sleeve is spring loaded to hold the closure plate normally closed. A vent tube having a passage is coupled to and supports the closure plate centrally disposed in the conduit. The vent tube has an inlet and an outlet with the inlet disposed in the aperture and opens into the conduit and the outlet disposed co-terminus with the second end of the conduit and permitting a flow of air from the inlet into the vent passage during a flow of fluid from the container into the opening. Said spout is placed at a desired angled position within said container and withdraw to a point of contact between its said exterior engaging mechanism and said interior engaging mechanism of said draw sleeve, clockwise rotation of which, draws an outer end flange of a second end, to a respective surface under said first cap in a sealed fashion. Said spout is thereby converted from said storage mote to said dispensing mode utilizing said draw sleeve, having said interior engaging mechanism. A holding mechanism with a protruding center pin, positioned inside said second cap, is rotated counter-clockwise causing disengagement from said spout, opening a first end. An apparatus for filling fluids into vehicle containers such as tanks of tank cars or tank trucks. An elongated pipe assembly has an inner fluid-receiving end and an outer fluid-discharging end for discharging fluid into the vehicle container. This assembly includes a support which supports the assembly for swinging movement at its inner end about a vertical axis. The assembly also includes structure for enabling the assembly to change the distance of the outer end of the assembly from its inner end. A movement-limiting arrangement is operatively connected with the outer end of the pipe assembly for limiting the latter to movement along a substantially straight, horizontal path while the assembly swings about the vertical axis at its inner end, so that in this way the outer end of the pipe assembly is constrained to move in a direction parallel to the travel of a vehicle. The pipe assembly automatically changes the distance of its outer end from its inner end as required to maintain the outer end of the assembly along this path.

A non-spilling, detachable pouring spout is configured to transfer liquid from a non--vented filling container to a receiving container. The spout has a spout body defining a first hollow passageway extending from an open first end to an open second end, wherein this open passageway having a generally tubular hollow inner conduit positioned within the first hollow passageway and defining a second hollow passageway. An intermediate sleeve is received in the spout and seals against portions of the spout body and the inner conduit so as to variously control the flow of materials out of the spout body, preferably the flow of liquid out of the spout and air into the spout as a venting system. The movement of said sleeve may be controlled by movement of an external sheath and may include child-resistant features. The preferred spout may achieve smooth air venting and liquid flow, and minimizes transverse/sideways flow and openings that tend to cause splash and leaks. The preferred spout does not use any O-ring members, which are prone to failure when used with gasoline, but instead uses a slidable sleeve with inner and outer seal surfaces provided by a flared or bell-shaped seal member.

A fluid dispensing container (5) having a generally rectangular and planar top wall (10), a pair of generally rectangular and coplanar opposed sidewalls (18), a front wall (22), and an opposed back wall (23), fastened to one another along their common edges. A generally rectangular and planar interior partition (30) is fastened to and sealed on the sidewalls (18), front wall (22), and rear wall (23) intermediate the first and second ends of each wall, respectively, to form sealed fluid container (5). Interior partition (30) is angled downward from rear wall (26) toward front wall (22). A fluid outlet opening (32) is defined in the second end of front wall (22) adjacent interior partition (30). A flexible hose (36) is fastened in sealed fluid communication with fluid outlet opening (32), hose (36) having a nozzle (40) fastened to its free end in sealed fluid communication. Nozzle (40) is adapted to be selectively opened and closed. A fluid inlet opening (46) is defined in the corner of fluid container (5) where top wall (10) and front wall (22) meet, and a fluid fill conduit (48) extends upward from fluid inlet opening (46) with respect to both top wall (10) and front wall (22). A cap assembly (50) is removably received on the other end of fluid fill conduit (48). Cap assembly (50) includes a vent (52) adapted to be selectively opened and closed for venting the interior of fluid container (5). Fluid container (5) also has a recessed channel (60) formed along the length of its front wall (22) for receiving hose (36). A pair of clamps (66) are mounted within recessed channel (60), for holding hose (36) within the channel.

A loading arm includes a stand pipe, a coupler configured to be connected to a tank to deliver a product, and a pipe assembly having a first pipe end pivotally coupled to the stand pipe and a second pipe end pivotally connected to the coupler. The pipe assembly includes a pivot joint disposed between the first pipe end and the second pipe end such that the pipe assembly is movable between a retracted position and an extended position. A linkage assembly has a first portion connected to the pivot joint and a second portion connected to the stand pipe. The linkage assembly is operable to allow for the positioning of the coupler at any of a plurality of points corresponding to the pipe assembly being positioned between the retracted position and the extended position. The linkage assembly is fully supported by the stand pipe such that movement of the pipe assembly does not require manipulating the weight of the linkage assembly.

A device for filling a road tanker (1, Figure 8) with liquid media, the road tanker comprising a plurality of filling chambers (2, Figure 8), near its base, of at least one multi part filling pipe and each filling pipe includes, between a third rotation bearing 14 and an element (19) for connecting the pipe to a fixed fuel supply column (20, Fig 8), a third section of pipe 15 connected by means of a fourth rotation bearing 18 to the connecting element 19. The bearing 18 comprises an axis of rotation directed parallel to the axis of the third rotation bearing 14 and the third section of pipe 15 comprises pipe bends (16, 17, Figure 5) bending in opposite directions. A first section of pipe adjacent a connection 4 for coupling the device to a filling chamber may consist of a hose 7 extending from a first rotation bearing 8 or may be a rigid section of pipe and a ball joint (7', 21 Figure 5). A balancing device 22 may be fixed to a fourth pipe bend, connected to the third rotation bearing 14, and also be connected to a second section of pipe 10. Pipe section 10 is connected via a third pipe bend to a second rotation bearing 12. A scissors like movement between the second and third sections of pipe is possible such that the first section of pipe or hose can extend substantially vertically on coupling to the road tanker chamber even when sections of pipe of adjacent filling pipes cross over one another (Figure 3). <IMAGE>

Elimination of hose wear combined with easy handling even when 4 inch dia. hoses are used for refuelling and emptying aircraft tanks is ensured with three main sections. The latter are linked by articulated joints and the central section represents a horizontal stretch with vertical ends supported by wheels on the ground. One end of the central section is extended to be connected to the hydrant where the couplings are provided. The other end of the central section is connected to the headpiece which can be coupled to the tank connector and both end sections are carried by trolleys. The central hose section (2) is connected to the end sections, (e.g. 4) through rotary linkages (5,6) whilst the ends are curved downwards when the end section is tilted in the horizontal plane. The central section is carried by trolleys (11,12). The end head (29) holding the coupling (30) for filling is made up of pipe sections with rotary joints in parallel planes. The pipe sections are spring biased.
