As shown the brake-shoe linings 25 are each riveted to a curved armature 24 and a curved spring spring member 23 having lugs 27 which are received loosely in notches 28 on the periphery of a magnetic spool frame 29 forming part of the electromagnet. The electromagnet comprises a central ring 30 having extensions carrying discs 31 of magnetic iron spaced from the ring 30 by insulating discs 32. A current coil 33 and a potential coil 34 are mounted on the spool, the coil 33 being in series with the motor driving the shaft 12, and the coil 34 being connected across the brushes of the motor. This arrangement gives a heavy initial current through the coil 33 to release the brake, and an increasing current through the coil 34 to maintain the release whilst the motor is in operation.

Die Aufgabe, ein schnell ansprechendes abbremsbares Lager anzugeben, das einen nur geringen Bauraum beansprucht, wird erfindungegemäß gelöst durch eine Rampe (8, 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d) an dem zweiten Lagerring (2), die in Richtung auf den ersten Lagerring (1) mindestens abschnittsweise vorsteht, und ein betätigbares Keilelement (9, 9a, 9b), das zwischen die Rampe (8, 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d) und den ersten Lagerring (1) bringbar ist, und das in der betätigten Stellung einen Spalt (10) zwischen der Rampe (8, 8a, m 8b, 8c, 8d) und dem ersten Lagerring (1) überbrückt.
