The relief may be achieved by roughening or corrugating the sheets, or by rolling to form upstanding pyramids or cones, the apices of the latter optional being perforated. Alternatively, separate elements, e.g. cups, cones or cylinders, made from the same metallized plastics material may be bonded to the surfaces of the sheets. Stacks of the sheets may be enclosed in welded metallized plastic bags, a series of such bags being used to fill the said space.

The closure member is bonded to a metallic cross-piece 5 of the rod 6, and is reinforced by providing it with a stiffening plate 19 on its downstream side, the plate serving to prevent bulging of the closure member on that side. The well-shaped portion of the housing has an aperture 13 at its bottom, which aperture is connected by a channel 14 to the downstream side of the valve, the well engaging end of the closure member being provided with a metallic plate which carries a sealing ring 20 adapted to abut and seal the aperture.

Such an enzyme may be made by aerobic cultivation of a strain of Paecilomyces subglobosum, especially ATCC 16492 or 16493.

Lubrication of the bearing assembly is carried out through a lubricating nipple installed in a crown-shaped nut fixed by a locking screw. To exclude ingress of atmospheric precipitation in upper part of crown nut there is a sealing element. A buffer member is formed on the bottom surface of the guide member, buffering the impact upon the case when the main shaft moves repeatedly. Sensors(341) are installed in the housing bracket to sense the movement of a valve driving part and a moving unit(340).

A valve, comprising: a cylindrical casing, closed at its ends by covers, and having axially aligned inlet and outlet chambers midway of its length disposed at right angles to the axis of the casing. Communication between said chambers is controlled by a ported, fluid pressure operated, movable valve plate assembly, including parallel cylinders, each containing a stationary piston connected to the inner end of a pair of axially aligned rods, or guides, fixed at their outer end to the covers. Each rod has a passageway communicating at its inner end with one end of its associated cylinder for supplying operating fluid thereto to bodily reciprocate the valve plate assembly on said rods within the casing. An adjustable collar positions a fixed wear plate in sealing engagement with one side of the valve plate assembly, and a fluid pressure actuated loading ring urges a floating wear plate into contact with the other side of said valve plate assembly. The casing may be pressurized by gas or liquid, but in any event, such pressure is maintained equal to or preferably slightly lower than the fluid pressure applied to the loading ring, but higher than the pressure in the system in which the valve is installed. With such pressure relationship, any abrasive material being handled by the system is prevented from entering between the movable valve plate assembly and the fixed and floating wear plates, respectively, thereby eliminating or reducing leakage and wear to a minimum. When liquid is used as the casing pressurizing fluid and/or the operating fluid supplied to the cylinders, it is preferably filtered, and may also be circulated through heat exchange means, if cooling thereof is necessary or desirable. The invention further includes a method of preventing abrasion, i.e., scoring and galling of the valve seating surfaces when the valve is installed in a system handling abrasive material.

The hollow piston 2 has an inwardly projecting ridge 5 which lies in a complementary groove in the closure member 6. The lower projecting part of the closure member 6 may have an upwardly curved lip which lies resiliently against the wall of the bore in the casing and prevents back flow of oil from the outlet port 10 to the inlet port 7. Fluid under pressure enters through the port 7, lifts the valve against the action of a spring 4 and presses the upper end of the closure member 6 against the passage 8 to close it. The fluid can then pass through port 10 to charge a dosing chamber. When the dosing chamber contains the desired quantity the flow of fluid through passage 7 is interrupted so that the spring 4 presses the piston 3 downwardly to close passage 7 and open passage 8 to permit the dosing chamber to discharge.

A fluidic device controls fluid flow in channel from a source to a drain. In some embodiments, the fluidic devices comprises a gate, a channel, and an obstruction. The gate comprises at least one chamber whose volume increases with fluid pressure. A high pressure state of the gate corresponds to a first chamber size and a low pressure state of the gate corresponds to a second chamber size that is smaller than the first chamber size. The obstruction controls a rate of fluid flow within the channel based on the fluid pressure in the gate. The obstruction induces at most a first flow rate of fluid in the channel in accordance with the low pressure state of the gate, and at least a second flow rate of the fluid in the channel in accordance with the high pressure state of the gate.

The outlet slide valve is provided with a piston-shaped, axially displaceable shut-off member (18) which is guided in a guide element (14) of generally tubular, in particular hollow-cylindrical, form. The guide element (14) ends in an opening (12) which is to be closed. Branching off to the side of the tubular guide element (14) is a conduit (16) which leads, for example, to a sampling container. The shut-off member (18) can be expanded in the radial direction and, in its closed position adjoining the opening (12) to be closed, can be brought into sealing engagement with the inner surface of the guide element (14). In the closed position, the end face (20) of the shut-off member (18) is essentially in alignment with or flush with the inner surface of the wall (10) bounding the opening (12), thereby precluding projections or recesses at which residues might accumulate. <IMAGE>

A gate valve for a pressurized pipe includes a paddle member with a lower proximal portion and a pair of spaced-apart and leg portions that form an outer edge and an inner edge. A cartridge includes a valve stem channel extending through a distal portion and through a conduit and terminating at a proximal opening in a proximal portion of the cartridge. The proximal portion of the cartridge includes a slot for accommodating the inner edge of the paddle member. In a pre-compression configuration, the inner edge of the paddle member is spaced-apart from the proximal opening of the conduit and in a post-compression configuration, the inner edge of the paddle member engages and seals the proximal opening resulting in a built-in check-valve that is open when the paddle member is in the pre-compression configuration and closed when the paddle member is in the post-compression configuration.

Under compression closure a self-sealing flexible plug is withheld from valve bore passage entry. Lateral expansion into the bore would grip the plug, to inhibit free opening and increase the plug's wear. An internally derived compression localizes lateral expansion to the bore perimeter. The valve stem (20) in a screwed body sleeve (29) carries the plug (28). The stem is end flanged inside the plug. Axial plug compression, between the inside flange and an outside thrust washer (32) ridges (39) urges the plug outwards. A stem nut (24) and spring (26) in the handwheel (22) adjust the ridge height.

@ An improved gate valve has a body (12) with an inlet (16) into the valve chamber (14) and an outlet (18) from the chamber. A gate (26) is disposed in the chamber. A bonnet (20) with an opening therethrough is secured to the body and a stem (34) connected to operate the gate extends through the bonnet opening. A seat (38) is provided in the bonnet, a shoulder (40) is formed on the stem and heat responsive means (58) hold the stem out of back seating position during normal operation and release to back seat in response to excess heat. Body bushings (30, 32) surround the inlet and outlet and seal against the gate, each of the bushings having resilient sealing means and a sealing lip for sealing against a sealing surface on said body.

A gate valve assembly is provided which includes a valve body having a fluid passage extending laterally therethrough which has an inlet end and an outlet end, with means at the inlet end and at the outlet end to connect the valve body to a fluid conveying conduit. The passage has a bottom surface coplanar with the bottom of the conduit and is free of recesses capable of preventing the drainage of liquids. An axially extending valve chamber intersects the passage and is disposed perpendicularly to the axis of the passage, the chamber having an elliptical cross-section with its widest dimension perpendicular to the passage. An axially and non-rotationally movable valve member is fitted closely within the chamber and has an internal, downwardly tapered hard, core member formed of metal, glass ceramic or hard plastic material. The core is surrounded by an elastomeric elliptically cross-sectioned outer member. The elastomeric member has a generally flattened bottom surface adapted to engage the bottom of the passage and is dimensioned to close the passage when extended into the closed position.
