A conical portion is provided at the tip of a main valve body. When brake fluid hits the conical portion of the main valve body, the brake fluid is bounced back at substantially the same angle at which it hits the conical surface of the conical portion. However, the movement direction of the bounced brake fluid is not largely inclined from the direction that the brake fluid is to be caused to flow. Therefore, the flow resistance is reduced. Further, generatrices of the conical portion agree with tangent lines to the spherical surface and the boundary area between the spherical surface and the conical surface is continuous without a step. Therefore, the brake fluid is rectified by these surfaces when it flows. It is possible to reduce the amount of fluctuation in pressure differential relative to fluctuation in the flow rate of brake fluid.

A first and second conducting wires extend in parallel with an axis of the shaft, and are equidistantly positioned relative to the axis, on a virtual circle that has a center point on the axis of the shaft. The electric current flowing in the first conducting wire and the electric current flowing in the second conducting wire have the same magnitude and the same flow direction with each other at any time. When the first conducting wire and the second conducting wire are on opposite sides relative to the center point of the virtual circle, the magnetic fields around the conducting wires cancel with each other, thereby enabling accurate detection of the rotation angle.

The switch sets the path in conductive or non-conductive state on the low side of the microcomputer. An instruction signal is sent to the microcomputer through the conductive path to set the microcomputer in an operation state. When the device judges based on the operation state of the microcomputer that the switch has set the path in a conductive state, the device sends a first signal of first voltage, causing the signal to have current strength equal to or higher than predetermined value in the path, to the object section. When the device judges that the switch has set the path in a non-conductive state, the device sends a second signal of second voltage lower than first voltage to the object section.

The apparatus includes a voltage equalizer configured to, when it is determined that the output voltage of one of the plurality of cells reaches the preset full charge voltage, perform a voltage equalizing task to match, with an output voltage of one specified cell in all the cells, the voltages of the remaining cells except for the one specified cell to equalize the output voltages of all the plurality of cells. The output voltage of the specified one cell is the lowest in the output voltages of all the cells.

In an electromagnetic switch, a magnetic plate, which forms a part of a magnetic circuit, and a bobbin of a second coil are assembled as one body by insert molding. Because a large amount of heat energy generated in the second coil is transmitted to the magnetic plate, this can discharge the heat energy through the magnetic plate to the cylindrical flame. Because a mounting surface of the cylindrical frame is fixed to an end part of a starter housing case, it is possible to easily discharge the heat energy generated in the second coil through the cylindrical frame to the starter housing case. This structure prevents a temperature rise of the second coil and contributes entire-size reduction of the electromagnetic switch.

A magnetic heat pump cycle has a first to a fourth steps, which are repeatedly carried out. In the first step, a movement of heat medium is stopped by a pressure valve and a pressure accumulating tank and a magnetic field is applied by a magnetic-field control unit to a magnetic working material. In the second step, the pressure valve is opened so that the heat medium flows in a working chamber from a second axial end to a first axial end, and the magnetic field is increased depending on a moving speed of the heat medium. In the third step, the movement of the heat medium is stopped and the magnetic field is decreased. In the fourth step, the heat medium is moved in a revered direction and the magnetic field is decreased depending on the moving speed of the heat medium.

A device executes a preceding vehicle following driving control and successively calculates a friction-braking-start threshold value, an engine-braking-start threshold value, an acceleration-control-completion threshold value by using equations L 1 , L 2 and L 3 , respectively. The device uses a constant vehicle speed zone determined between the engine-braking-start threshold value and the acceleration-control-completion threshold value. When a compensated-evaluation-index value KdB_c of a vehicle distance between the own vehicle and a preceding vehicle is within the constant vehicle speed zone, the device drives the own vehicle at a constant speed. This control suppresses fuel consumption because of decreasing an acceleration and deceleration frequency of the own vehicle. Decreasing the deceleration frequency makes it possible to provide good vehicle following because less frequent acceleration is needed for following the preceding vehicle even if another vehicle cuts in between the own vehicle and the preceding vehicle or the preceding vehicle accelerates after decelerating.
