Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Einrichtung zur Auswahl der Position, des Typs bzw. der Präparationstechnik dentaler Implantate, welche bereits vor der Implantation eine Aussage über die optimale Position der Implantate, den optimalen Implantattyp und eine geeignete Präparationstechnik hinsichtlich Primärstabilität und Langzeiterfolg geben kann. Erfindungsgemäß ist vorgesehen, dass vor der Implantation von Bidlaufnahmeeinheiten stammenden Bilddaten in an sich bekannter Weise in Knochendichtewerte umgewandelt und grafisch dargestellt werden, und für eine ausgewählte Implantatposition aus den Knochendichtewerten zur Quantifizierung der zu erwartenden Primärstabilität auf die zu erwartenden Drehmomente beim Einsetzen der Implantate bezogene Werte aufgrund vom empirischen Daten ermittelt werden, und die Knochendichtewerte und die zugehörigen Drehmoment-Werte für die ausgewählte Implantatposition dargestellt werden. Dazu ist erfindungsgemäß eine Bildaufnahmeeinheit (1), eine damit verbundene Recheneinheit (4) zur Umwandlung der Bilddaten in Knochendichtewerte (BMD), sowie eine Anzeigeeinrichtung (5) zur vorzugsweise farblich kodierten Darstellung der Knochendichtewerte und der zugehörigen Drehmoment-Werte für die ausgewählte Implantatposition vorgesehen.
