In a punched-card controller for washing- machines, wherein a punched card 6 controls the movement of balls 8 and operating members 11 of switches 12, the balls are arranged in a plurality of rows transverse to the direction of card transport and offset relatively to each other (Fig. 3, not shown). Card 6 moves in a guide space between a guide plate 1 and a cover-plate 4, which latter has indentations 10 for receiving the balls 8 when they project through the punched holes 9 in the card. An enlarged opening 1 allows easy entry of the card into the guide space, and a toothed transport wheel 13 for the card 6 is mounted on a pivotal member 18 to yield slightly in the direction of arrow b as the card is inserted. A spring 24 then urges the wheel 13 into engagement with the card as an electric motor 23 drives the wheel via gearing 22, 21, 20.
