WOUND DRESSING
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new wound dressing which includes bandages and swabs for application to a wound wounded as a result of surgical operation and uses absorbent fiber in a bandage.
SOLUTION: A wound dressing has its wound-contacting surface composed of carboxymethylcellulose filaments which can absorb 0.9 wt% of aqueous saline infusion against its self weight (as measured by a free-swelling absorption test) to form swollen transparent gel. The bandage retains fiber characteristics as an agglutinative bandage sufficient to be removed from a wound when the swollen transparent gel is formed. The carboxymethylcellulose filaments can be used for curing a traumatic wound by surgical operation or a chronic wound.
