Composition and method for stress mitigation in plants

Номер: US20120295788A1
Принадлежит: Stoller Enterprises Inc

A composition and method to mitigate plant autophagy and/or apoptosis of newly developing cells in plants grown under environmentally stressful growing conditions, such as high temperature. Exogenous application of a cytokinin, preferably kinetin, to either the roots or the foliage (i.e., flowers and leaves) of plants has been discovered to overcome, or at least substantially mitigate, autophagy when applied during or just prior to flowering. Experimental results indicate that high temperature-induced autophagy, and subsequent new cell apoptosis, is the result of a deficiency of cytokinin in the plant tissues. The application of low concentrations of potassium together with the cytokinin appears to provide a synergistic effect by amplifying the effect of the cytokinin to lessen autophagy and increase crop productivity.

High Unsaponifiables and Methods of Using the Same

Номер: US20140010770A1
Принадлежит: International Flora Technologies, Ltd.

Materials with high levels of unsaponifiable matter, such as extracts from plants, produce hydrolysates with unique properties. The application of a hydrolysis process to materials, particularly materials with a high level of unsaponifiables (e.g., at least 6 weight percent of the material), produces a product with properties significantly different from those products resulting from the conventional saponification of materials with less than 6 weight percent of unsaponifiables. The hydrolysates of the present invention are substantive, resisting both physical and aqueous-based removal from skin and hair, exhibit a unique surfactant property, and are not foaming agents with water. Hydrolysates according to the present invention may be used to enhance the performance of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. These hydrolysates can be bioactive agents and alternative natural carrying agents for topical application of materials, particularly for application of materials to the skin or hair, providing a substantive support for the materials carried. 1. A method of preparing a composition for enhancing substantivity of cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations for topical application to skin , comprising the steps of:(a) saponifying jojoba oil to produce hydrolysates of jojoba oil, wherein the hydrolysates comprise a non-polar unsaponifiable fraction and a polar hydrophilic salt fraction corresponding to the tandem reaction products of saponification of jojoba oil; and(b) combining the hydrolysates of step (a) with a cosmetically or pharmaceutically acceptable diluent.2. The present invention further provides methods for preparing bioactive solutions and micro and nano emulsions comprising water-soluble or water-miscible oils and/or non-water-soluble oils, which find use in the methods for reducing water consumption by plants and/or for modifying the growth of plants. 1. A method for reducing water consumption by a plant , the method comprising: contacting a plant with a bioactive solution comprising , consisting essentially of , or consisting of a water-soluble or water-miscible oil and water , wherein the water-soluble or water-miscible oil is the product of an ethoxylation process , a transesterification process , a saponification process , or a micromixing process , and wherein water consumption by the plant is reduced when compared to a control plant that has not been contacted with the bioactive solution.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein reducing water consumption comprises the application of a lesser volume of water to the plant contacted with the bioactive solution to maintain a desired level or an amount of at least one growth parameter or characteristic relative to the control volume of water applied to the control plant that is required to maintain the desired level or amount of the at least one growth parameter or characteristic.3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the lesser volume of water is at least 5% claim 2 , 10% claim 2 , 15% claim 2 , 20% claim 2 , 25% claim 2 , 30% claim 2 , 35% claim 2 , 40% claim 2 , 45% claim 2 , 50% claim 2 , 55% claim 2 , 60% claim 2 , 65% claim 2 , 70% claim 2 , 75% claim 2 , 80% claim 2 , 85% claim 2 , 90% claim 2 , or 95% less water than the control volume of water.4. The method of any one of - claim 2 , wherein the growth parameter or characteristic is selected from the group consisting of wilting claim 2 , yellowing claim 2 , lodging claim 2 , ...
