Athletic apparel, including compression garments and athletic footwear, is disclosed as capable of monitoring the wear of compression fabric and/or cushioning material by attaching a performance gauge onto the apparel. The performance gauge includes microcapsules that contain a co-reactant, wherein the microcapsules can breakdown in concert with the wear and degradation of the compression fabric or cushioning material, thereby allowing the co-reactant to produce color indication. As the wear of the fabric and cushioning material increases, more microcapsules breakdown resulting in a progression of color change visible through additional layers on the performance gauge, or by the fabric and/or cushioning material. The microcapsules can be engineered to breakdown based on any variation of factors that correspond to the degradation of compressive fabric and cushioning material, including shear force, tension, impact force, and/or exposure to high temperature and water. 1. The first layer is formed from a first yarn having a first shrinkage rate and the second layer is formed by a second yarn having a second shrinkage rate. The shrinkage rate of the first yarn is greater than the shrinkage rate of the second yarn when subjected to heat. Upon heat exposure, the second layer forms a raised structure. The raised structures have a length that is generally perpendicular to the lateral-to-medial course-wise direction of the knitted article. Methods of forming raised structures are also disclosed.

A footwear article , comprising:a first circular-knit layer;a second layer coupled to the first circular-knit layer, the second layer configured to be disposed adjacent at least a portion of the first circular-knit layer when folded into or around the first circular-knit layer; anda functional layer interposed between the first circular-knit layer and the second circular-knit layer when the second circular-knit layer is folded into or around the first circular-knit layer.2. The footwear article of claim 1 , wherein the functional layer comprises one or more of a waterproof membrane claim 1 , a breathable waterproof membrane claim 1 , or a spray application.3. A footwear article claim 1 , comprising:a first circular-knit layer defining at least a portion of an exterior surface; anda second circular-knit layer coupled to the first circular-knit layer, the second circular-knit layer configured to be disposed adjacent at least a portion of the first circular-knit layer when folded into or around the first circular-knit layer.4.
