A claw-type fixer for temporarily holding a vamp and a midsole of a shoe during a manufacturing process is introduced. The claw-type fixer is made of a steel plate to form a claw structure that includes a claw handle and a plurality of front teeth curved 90° from the claw handle. Each of the teeth has a sharp tip for easily piecing the leather-made vamp. While applying the claw-type fixer of the present invention, the left hand of the operator is used to hold the claw handle of the fixer and the right hand is used to depress the teeth of the fixer into the work piece. The claw-type fixer can ensure temporarily the connection of the vamp and the midsole and thus improve the adhesion in between. While removing the fixer of the present invention, it can be easily done by simply applying little pulling upon the handle to lift the claw-type fixer. In addition, the claw-type fixer is low-cost and can be reused.

The peripheral flange defines a groove extending along the peripheral flange. The strobel also includes a lasting component configured to extend along the peripheral flange around the at least a portion of the perimeter of the interior cavity. Apparatus for shaping a sole and thereafter pressing it against the bottom of a shoe form includes a support 16 for the shoe form, a moulding member 138 mounted above the shoe form and which can be retracted to a remote position, a pressing pad 140 which presses the sole against the moulding member 138 or the shoe form, and sole retaining means which hold the sole in position when the moulding member 138 is retracted and then allows the sole to fall on to the bottom of the shoe form. The apparatus may be used for mounting an insole on a bare last or for mounting an outsole on a lasted upper. The last support 16 (Figs. 1, 9) consists of a toe rest 20 and a last pin 30. The last pin 30 is mounted on a slide which is movable towards and away from the toe rest 20 and the pin 30 can be retracted by an air motor 26. The last can be locked on the last pin 30 by a block 38 which is urged towards the last pin 30 by a wedge driven by an air motor 46. The mould 138 (Figs. 8, 9) is carried by a slide 148 which is movable along a track 146 by an air motor 152 between an operative position over the last and a rearward remote position. The mould 138 is pivoted to the slide 148 by a pin 16 and can be aligned with a left or right last by an air motor 170 which is connected to the mould 138 by brackets 174, slide 162 and pivot 166. The mould 138 has a shape corresponding to that of the last bottom but exaggerating the curvatures of the last so that the continuity of the fibres of the insole will become disrupted to a degree sufficient to reduce the elasticity of the insole. The mould 138 is also provided with adhesive applying outlets 214, 216 which deposit two dots of adhesive on to the insole. The magnetic members are secured to different portions of the fixture such that the alignment of the magnetic members by magnetic attraction causes the fixture portions to be placed into a magnetically coupled and aligned arrangement. Therefore, different portions of the fixture may be magnetically coupled and aligned for different manufacturing processes to be performed on an article maintained by the fixture. The article may be maintained in association with a first part of the fixture while different portions of the fixture are substituted depending on the manufacturing process to be performed. In an exemplary aspect, the geometric configuration of the magnetic members further aid in the self-alignment. Further, it is contemplated that the magnetic field configuration of the magnetic members also aid in the self-alignment.

The upper and/or midsole may have cement applied thereto and may be cooled before the insertion step, as described above. When sufficiently cooled, the cement will not immediately bind the parts contacting it, but it will allow relative movement of these parts. After the midsole is positioned in the upper, the assembly may be heated to activate the cement and fix the parts together.
