12,441. Raab, H., and Raab, H., [Firm of]. May 23. Lasting. - The shoe is held on an adjustable s p r i n gpressed support A, which is movable about a pivot 2 and also rotatable about the line B, B, and is moved forward under the lasting-devices with a step-by-step movement by a pawl and ratchet 65, 66 actuated through adjustable connexions 64, 63, 62 from a cam on the main shaft; a roller 10 engages the insole and serves as a guide during this movement. The lasting-devices are the same on both sides of the last, and comprise a pincer 13, Fig. 2, carried by spring-controlled pincer-bars, which are arranged so that by their relative movement they first cause a dovetail 20 to close the pincer jaws and then move together to effect the up-draw, a tacking-device 74, which is furnished with a wiper face to press the stretched upper down over the insole, and a guide-roller 25, which engages the upper and causes the pincers and the tacking-device to swing bodily in and out to follow the contour of the last. When the lasting is completed, a stop 75, Fig. 1, on the worksupport engages a trip device 76, which releases a crank plate 77 so as to cause a rod 78 to throw the main clutch out of gear.
