The multi-zone heated hair appliance disclosed herein allows for styling of hair utilizing multiple different heating temperature levels without the need for repeated cool down or heat up periods when a different temperature is desired for a particular use during a styling session. More particularly, a heated member of the appliance is provided in which different heated temperature zones are provided. The multiple temperature zones may be simultaneously heated up to different temperatures. Thus, when a user desires a particular temperature for a particular styling technique the desired temperature is readily available by applying the hair to the desired temperature zone. In this manner multiple different styling temperatures are readily available without the need for waiting for the appliance to heat up or cool down.

The arms can have opposing surfaces that can be heated. The heated surfaces can be featureless or include features. One or both surfaces can have rows of closely spaced, parallel blade shaped tines extending across substantially the entire width of the surface from one side of the device to another side of the device. The hair straightening device can have at least two different temperature settings selectable by a user. In certain implementations, one temperature setting may be lower than the other two settings and at a temperature that is not optimal for straightening hair. The other two temperature settings may be set to a temperature that is optimal for straightening hair of different types.

A hair volumizing device is designed specifically for adding lift or volume to any hairstyle. The device comprises two arms with heated interlocking plates that employ interlocking two dimensional arrays of individual treatment elements with alternating spaces. The individual treatment element design and the two-dimensional array pattern provide substantial lift and holding strength. The individual treatment elements of the volumizing device transforms the under layer of hair of a person into a matrix that can support the outer or upper visible layer of hair to create volume. A method for styling hair , comprising:arranging a section of hair between a first electrode and a second electrode;contacting the section of hair with an electrolyte;causing the first electrode to have a first negative potential; andcausing the second electrode to have a second potential, the absolute value of the first negative potential greater than the absolute value of the second potential, the difference in electrical potential between the first electrode and the second electrode creating an electrolysis zone between the first electrode and the second electrode.2.
