A rotational atherectomy device with fluid inflatable support elements

Номер: GB0002444173A
Принадлежит:

A rotational atherectomy device, for abrading a stenotic lesion from a vessel of a patient, comprises a flexible drive shaft 1, a distal fluid inflatable support element 3 located at a distal end 4 of the drive shaft, and an abrasive element 5 mounted to the drive shaft 1 proximal to and spaced away from the distal fluid inflatable support element 3. Both the abrasive element 5 and the distal fluid inflatable support element 3 are rotatable together with the drive shaft 1 which comprises a torque transmitting coil 2 defining a long lumen 6. The support element 3 is formed from a fluid impermeable membrane 9 that crosses the longitudinal axis X-X of the drive shaft 1 at its distal end 4, thereby preventing pressurized fluid flowing along the lumen 6 and entering the vessel. The fluid then has to pass through the support element 3, causing it to inflate, and exit the device through outflow openings 66.

The device disclosed herein is used to the remove a thrombus from the vasculature. It includes an aspiration catheter and a thrombus retrieval device that extends through the lumen of the aspiration catheter. An expandable braided assembly extends over a distal region of the retrieval device, and an activation wire extends through the lumen of the retrieval device to attach to and control the expansion of the braided assembly. Applying tension to the activation wire causes the braided assembly to expand to a diameter of the practitioner's choosing. For example, the practitioner may apply a first level of tension to the activation wire to deploy the braided assembly to a first diameter and then later change the diameter by applying a different level of tension. The expanded braided assembly contacts the thrombus and is pulled proximally toward the aspiration catheter to assist in thrombus removal.

ULTRASOUND CATHETER FOR DISRUPTING BLOOD VESSEL OBSTRUCTIONS

Номер: US20130072824A1

Ultrasound catheter devices and methods provide enhanced disruption of blood vessel obstructions. Generally, an ultrasound catheter includes an elongate flexible catheter body with one or more lumens. An ultrasound transmission member or wire extends longitudinally through the catheter body lumen and, in many embodiments, a guide wire tube also extends through the same lumen. A distal head is fixed to or otherwise mechanically coupled with the distal end of the ultrasound transmission member or wire and is positioned adjacent the distal end of the catheter body. Although the distal end of the catheter body overlaps the distal head, the distal head is not directly affixed to the distal end of the catheter body. Thus, the distal tip may move freely, relative to the distal end of the catheter body when ultrasonic energy is applied through the ultrasound transmission member. Such a freely floating distal head enhances the efficiency of an ultrasound catheter, enabling the catheter to ablate calcific occlusions and increasing the useful life of the ultrasound transmission member and catheter. 1. SINGLE HAND SEMI-AUTOMATIC TISSUE MORCELLATOR

Номер: US20130123797A1
Автор: Livneh Steve
Принадлежит:

A morcellator is described which may be operated with one hand, thus providing semi-automatic functionality, for the reduction of solid tissue into smaller pieces, which may then transported and emptied into a specimen bag. The morcellator eliminates the need for stand-alone grasping forceps that are currently used to grasp and pull the tissue against a sharp rotating tubular conduit. The grasping, cutting and transporting of the tissue may be accomplished via the handheld morcellator which provides triggers and control buttons, thus eliminating conventional handheld graspers and foot switches. The surgeon can now hold the scope and visualize the morcellation arena, thus eliminating the need for a second surgeon presently used for this purpose. Moreover, the ability to perform morcellation single handedly, while holding the scope, improves control and avoids wasted time compared to the procedure when it is done by two surgeons. 1. A morcellator system for morcellating tissue , comprising:a conduit member including an end portion having a cutting surface formed thereon, wherein the conduit member includes an area defining a through bore extending therethrough;a jaw assembly including a pair of pivotable jaw members, wherein at least a portion of the jaw assembly is positioned proximate to the end portion of the conduit member; andan auger assembly at least partially received in the through bore of the conduit member, wherein at least a portion of the auger assembly is positioned proximate to the end portion of the conduit member.2. Arteries carry blood from the heart towards the body parts, while veins carry blood from the body parts back to the heart. Veins contain one-way valves to prevent the blood from flowing backwards. If the one-way valve becomes weak, some of the blood can leak backwards through the valve, collect in the vein upstream of the valve, and then become congested as the pressure builds. This congestion will cause the vein to abnormally enlarge. These enlarged veins can be seen on the surface of the skin as either varicose veins or spider ...
