A method for applying compression between a first bone portion and a second bone portion having a gap therebetween , the method comprising:inserting a compression screw in the first bone portion and the second bone portion, the compression screw comprising an outer sleeve and an inner bone screw, the outer sleeve having a non-threaded head which defines a radially extending shoulder, and the inner bone screw being threadedly engaged with the outer sleeve, the compression screw being inserted into the first bone portion and the second bone portion as a single unit; androtating the outer sleeve to move the inner bone screw toward the outer sleeve and reduce the gap between the first bone portion and the second bone portion.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compression screw is inserted to a depth claim 1 , and the depth remains substantially the same after the gap is reduced.3. A bone anchor device to connect two bone segments in a body has an elongated cylindrical member. The elongated cylindrical member has a shank, a first distal threaded end and a second proximal threaded end spaced by a middle portion of the shank. A first double helical thread formed on the first distal end has a pitch equal to or greater than a second helical thread formed at the second proximal end to create a compression between the two bone segments being connected. Disclosed herein are distraction implants for treating, for example, spinal disorders. The implants can be comprised of a U-shaped elastic member, two bone anchor members and two tension members to couple the components together. Use of the tension members allows for transfer of distraction force without unintended forces in the perpendicular plane and parasitic moments. As there are several options for anchoring to bone, the present implants can be applied to all segments of the spine from the cervical spine to the lumbar regions. The implant can be temporary or permanent, covering indications from fracture treatment to management of chronic disc disorders, including disc protrusion. Use of the present implant and methods of use are also within the scope of the invention. 1. An implant for flexible distraction between two anchor points on the skeleton of a human or veterinary patient , the implant comprising an elastic member , two anchor members , and two flexible tension members , wherein the elastic member straddles the two anchor members and applies a distraction force to the anchor members via the two flexible tension members situated between the elastic member and the two anchor members.2.
