Sealing sheath for prosthetic liner and related methods

The sealing sheath is for use with a prosthetic socket and associated liner. The sealing sheath includes a textile tube for surrounding at least a portion of a liner that is configured to wear on a residual limb. An annular seal, e.g. an elastomeric or silicone seal, is positioned adjacent a proximal end of the textile tube and continuously extends from an inside of the textile tube configured to be adjacent the liner, through the textile tube to an outside thereof configured to be adjacent an inside of the prosthetic socket. The annular seal may include a first wing on an inside of the textile tube configured to be adjacent the liner, a second wing on an outside of the textile tube configured to be adjacent an inside of the prosthetic socket, and a base connecting lower ends of the first and second wings to define a v-shaped cross-section of the annular seal.

A heat sleeve for selectively heating a residual limb of an amputee is provided. The heat sleeve includes a first sock member having an open proximal end, a distal end and a continuous side wall, all defining an open interior area configured to receive the residual limb therein. A temperature regulating apparatus includes a thermal adjustment element adapted to be mounted onto an exterior surface of the first sock member proximate the distal end, and a power supply operatively coupled to the thermal adjustment element. When the power supply is in its ON orientation and providing power to the thermal adjustment element, the thermal adjustment element selectively heats the residual limb within the first sock. A second sock member may then receive the residual limb, the first sock member and the flexible heating element therein.

In an embodiment, a socket liner for a prosthetic system is included having a polymeric wall member defining an interior volume. The polymeric wall member having an inner surface bordering the interior volume and an outer surface. The polymeric wall member can include an anterior side, a posterior side, a first lateral side and a second lateral side the second lateral side opposite the first lateral side. A plurality of horizontal ridges can be disposed on the inner surface of the polymeric wall member on the first lateral side and the second lateral side. The prosthetic liner comprises an outer textile with variable stretch characteristics due to the knit construction and stitching and an interior gel layer. The distal region of the liner textile has less stretch than does the intermediate region or proximal region and is stitched together to form a unitary liner. The TPE layer is not uniform in thickness but has ridges to extend circumferentially around the TPE layer. Breathable residual-limb system that admits air and allows sweat to evaporate from the surface of the residual limb. In an embodiment, the system comprises a liner sock to be worn on the residual limb, and comprising air-permeable textile forming a substantially cylindrical portion that is closed on a distal end and open on a proximal end and comprising an internal surface and an external surface. The liner sock further comprises a friction-interface material that covers only a portion of the internal surface of the air-permeable textile, such that, when worn on the residual limb, the friction-interface material contacts a surface of the residual limb, and an uncovered portion of the air-permeable textile which the friction-interface material does not cover allows air to pass between an external environment of the liner sock and the surface of the residual limb. 1. The present invention is directed to prosthetic device for attaching a mechanical limb to a user. The present invention relates to a device for pulling on the jersey stockings for putting contact prostheses into place. It allows, in particular, an amputee who has lost a lower or upper limb to put his/her prosthesis into place independently and without effort. It also makes it possible to lighten the work load of the hospital staff involved in assisting amputees in specialised rehabilitation centres. The device comprises a stop piece (10) adapted to bear around the orifice (2) of the end of the insert part (1) of the prosthesis, a self-locking catch (12) designed to hold the jersey stocking (1B) tightly over the whole of its cross-section, or over only a part thereof, a traction carriage (11) which slides on a slideway frame (6) and which drives the locking catch (12). The displacement of the traction carriage (11) can be obtained manually by pressing the grips (6A, 8) or electrically by means of an endless screw driven by a motor. The device makes it possible both to guide the prosthesis (1) towards the stump to be fitted (1A), to pull tightly on the stocking (1B) and to perform this manoeuvre using only one hand, since the device holds itself in position starting from the onset of the traction. The position of the grips (6A, 8) is ideal from the ergonomic point of view, both for the amputee and for a third party.

The sheath fits over a suction type stump holder for an artticial limb protects the wearer's skin against rubbing. It comprises a sleeve (1) with an elasticated collar (7) at one end, fitted to the outside of the holder (1) and held by a draw string and an adhesive band (8). The body (5) of the sleeve is folded over the top (6) of the holder and extends inside it. The stump (2) is fitted with a stocking and eased into the holder, a string passing through the suction the hole (3) being used to guide and remove the stocking. The sleeve pulls tight to fit closely around the stump.

A process is also disclosed for molding a sleeve member having prosthetic applications using male and female die elements used to distribute uncured elastomer resin as a layer on a tubular elasticized fabric sleeve element.

A prosthetic sleeve and socket system, the sleeve including a flap or skirt concentrically arranged about the sleeve and configured to form a sealed chamber between the sleeve and socket when the sleeve is inserted into the socket. An air permeable material is interposed between the skirt and the sleeve to maintain a continuous interconnected air layer therebetween. An expulsion valve is provided to allow air contained within the sealed chamber to be forced out of the chamber ahead of the sleeve when it is inserted into the socket. A powered vacuum pump is also provided for producing and maintaining a partial vacuum in the sealed chamber for keeping the socket and sleeve joined. The system allows for a substantial reduction in size of known sockets and permits, in some instances, the disposal of bulky suspension straps currently in use to force the socket against a residual limb.

A sleeve for mounting a prosthetic unit on a limb is formed in a knitted fabric comprising elastic yarns to allow circumferential extension of the sleeve to grip the limb. Adherent fibres are integrated within the fabric and exposed on the internal surface of the sleeve to provide additional grip. Such fibres can be silicone or silicone based yarns. An end of the sleeve is adapted to couple with a prosthetic unit. The knitted fabric may include yarns of restricted elasticity to limit longitudinal extension of the sleeve, and the elastic yarns and the yarns of restricted elasticity are typically located in discrete sections (2, 4, 6) of the sleeve. Such discrete sections will normally extend longitudinally in the sleeve. The knitted yarns at the end of the sleeve are normally bonded directly to a coupling element (8, 10, 12) for attachment to a prosthetic unit.
