Tension members anchored to a wearer's body to resist femoral acetabular impingement (FAI)-causing movements. A first tension member is anchored to the body of a subject, and produces a force on the subject's body to primarily limit the ability of the subject's thigh to internally rotate and the ability of the subject's knee to adduct. Thus, this first tension member resists the tendency of the subject's leg to twist inward or deflect inward, each of which may contribute to FAI. A second tension member is anchored to the subject's body, and provides a force to the subject's body to primarily limit the ability of the subject's hip joint to move in flexion. Thus, the second tension member resists the tendency of the subject's leg to raise too high, which may also contribute to FAI.

The invention is directed to a system and methods to reduce a hip joint dislocation. Embodiments of the system may include a unitary or multipartite leg support assembly having about a 90-degree bend that is shaped to accommodate a leg, a lifting component, and a component for securing a leg to the leg support assembly. Embodiments of the multipartite leg support may be adjustable to accommodate any leg length. Embodiments of the system provide a mechanical advantage that may be used to reduce the hip joint, while simultaneously decreasing the possibility of injury to the user.

A traction hip brace which provides a traction force to the femur, pulling it out and away from the acetabulum. A knee brace element secures around the lower thigh and below the knee at the upper shin using two shells with adjustable straps. An articulating hinge allows bending of the knee. A strut member extends from the knee hinge up to a saddle harness. The strut member has an articulating hinge that can be locked to prevent motion if desired. The terminus end of the strut member is inserted into a holster of the saddle harness worn by the user. The saddle harness is fitted to the user's waist and buttock and provides the anchor point for the end of the strut member. Attachment straps are used to tension the strut member down and away from the saddle harness to exert a traction force on the femur.

A removable and replaceable hip orthotic that includes a back panel formed from a rigid material that supports a patient's lumbar area; a front panel formed from the rigid material that supports the patient's abdomen area and is hinged to the back panel to allow application and removal of the orthotic to the patient; a leg support that extends from the back support that includes a space that allows a patient's leg to pass through into the leg support; and straps to secure the back panel to the front panel and the leg into the leg support. The back panel includes a pair of windows with a trochanter pad movably disposed within the windows. An adjustment mechanism selectively moves the trochanter pads relative to the greater trochanter regions of the hips of the patient to apply pressure to the hip joint to prevent dislocation of the femoral head. 1. The device has a polymer foam cushion (1) whose chemical composition is in accordance with the legislation on phthalates and bisphenol-A. The foam is made of polyethylene emulsified by a neutral gas with closed cells. Belts (6) and straps (7) are secured to the cushion and locked by Velcro(RTM: hook and loop fastener) (8). The cushion is formed in the shape of a gutter (4) and perforated with round holes (2) and slots (3), where the straps are surrounded by a soft fabric sleeve (9).

Provided is a femoral support member ( 3 ) for a walking assistance device that includes a power actuator (actuator 4 ) having a drive shaft and secured to a hip region of a wearer, the femoral support member securing a free end of an assist force transmitting arm ( 5 ) extending from the drive shaft of the power actuator to a femoral region (T) of the wearer. The femoral support member engages the femoral part of the wearer via an air pad ( 27 ) filled with air. Thus, owing to the air cushioning action of the aid pad, the air pad can readily deform itself by a large displacement even when the wearer squats and the femoral region expands. By appropriately adjusting the air in the air pad, the femoral support member can be worn by a wearer in a highly favorable manner.

An apparatus to relieve menstrual cramping includes one or more tapered pads having an inner and outer side, each outer side being semi-rigid and each inner side being flexible. The outer side of each pad is connected to one or more straps having first and second ends. A fastener is attached to the first end of each strap and a corresponding second fastener attaches to the second end of each strap. The apparatus includes a variable compression drive located proximate to one pad to create a compression force through each strap when the first and corresponding second fasteners connect. The drive includes an outer drum shell, an inner rotator having an inner diameter that is treaded, a motor which communications with the inner rotator, and a threaded shaft which engages the inner diameter of the inner rotator. A tab attaches the threaded shaft to the strap.
